There was definitely a Christian vibe to that scene with the wine and the cup. And interesting how she told Jacob that he really didn't have a choice, while Jacob himself keeps telling people they DO have a choice. I think over time he must have come to realize that there were lots of things Mother didn't know or he suspected she was wrong about, which gave rise to his new "rules"... It's like we're missing a huge chunk here from the time Jacob sends his brother into the light, and until he is the Jacob we see greet Alpert and interact with the Losties on and off island. I guess he had lots of time to think through what he'd learned about the island?

I hope they put out a boxed series DVD with all of the pop-ups to help me figure out all of this crap when I rewatch it all one day. Or better yet- a 5 hr mini-series type Cliff Note recap.

I was wondering what it meant that Mother was weaving that piece of fabric. I thought of the Moirae or The Fates, and how they spin and weave somebody's life story.
Thank you to the people who identified Allison Janney. It was driving me crazy that I recognized the actress's voice, but couldn't place her face or name.

I really like Vozzek69's take on the episode. I share his suspicion that Mother actually might have planned to spare Jacob from becoming the monster, and that she basically let the boys share the guardian duties. She herself, I think, was both Guardian and Monster. Like Vozzek, I've also wondered repeatedly during the show if it's a place where wishes can come true. Maybe this is how Jacob and Mother set the rules and give eternal life? By willing it. And maybe this is why some people are healed and some people die...

I could go along with this... it sort of fits into this feeling I had that if Claudia hadn't have had twins, she would have lived. Having twins changed the game (not literally- or..yeah?), so Mother killed her.

I give up. Seriously.
On another note, I also really liked the acting, although I thought this episode was completely out of sync with the series. The little boys were little miniatures of themselves.

I wonder if the Lost writers are Chris de Burgh fans. Jacob and MIB remind of the Lord and the Devil in the song "Spanish Train". They're always playing games to win the souls.
Well that Spanish train still runs between, Quadalquivir and old Seville, And at dead of night the whistle blows, And people fear she's running still... And far away in some recess The Lord and the Devil are now playing chess, The Devil still cheats and wins more souls, And as for the Lord, well, he's just doing his best...
Sorry if this was a bit OT.

Nothing's really OT when it comes to Lost... Or maybe, it's everything's OT?

That show sure gets in your head doesn't it? I was awake in the middle of the night thinking about last nights episode. They better come out with a book explaining EVERYTHING! Or maybe when the sell the dvd at Xmas time, they'll have a whole dvd explaining it all..
