Yeah, the fishing scene was bad. I kept expecting a zombie to lunge out of the water and grab one of the women and as the scene went on I found I was HOPING a zombie would lunge out of the water and grab one of the women just so that scene would end.

My boyfriend put an imaginary gun to his head during that scene.

I quit watching this show after the second episode. My step-daughter and I sat down and said, "Ok, if this episode isn't any better, we're done." I started shaking my head when they got the body and started smearing zombie parts on themselves. I turned to her and said, "If they go outside and start acting like zombies, a la Shaun of the Dead, I am not going to be able to stand it..." And that's exactly what they did. Sigh.
The dialogue is bad (but not like Spartacus, where it was so bad it was funny), the not-so-creative borrowing from every other zombie film out there got old, and I decided I didn't want to invest any more time in it.
However, I do come here and read the comments about the subsequent episodes. From what you guys are saying, it's still not a very good show.

Can zombies go in water? Would it be like Pirates of the Carribean where they can just walk along the bottom and out the other side?
At the end of Dawn of the Dead they go to an island assuming that it's safe, but what if the zombies can walk under water. I need to know!

Yes, yes they can.....type zombie vs shark on youtube and see a clip from 1979's Zombie ( also known as Zombie 2 ) Also in Romero's Land Of The Dead if I recall correctly zombies did the same walking under water bit as in Pirates. So now you have something else to worry about at the beach besides sharks, fecal counts, medical waste and overweight men in speedos.

I kept expecting a zombie to lunge out of the water and grab one of the women and as the scene went on I found I was HOPING a zombie would lunge out of the water and grab one of the women just so that scene would end. The pacing's really weird in this show, isn't it? In this episode it was worth sitting through the slow parts for the action at the end, although the nursing home reveal was pretty good too, but I hope they iron out some of the pacing stuff. I haven't read the graphic novels, but I get the impression it's more of a character drama than an 'all zomie killing all the time!' sort of series, so a lot of that's going to translate to the TV show. If people are watching expecting it to be a zombie-killing fest every week they're going to be disappointed, and ratings may drop. Re. the borrowing from other zombie movies, I think the series was written before the big spike in zombie movies, and Robert Kirkman has said that there's only so many ways the main character can survive the initial zombie wave. As someone whose little sister is 11 years younger than me, Amy's death just about killed me. Re. zombies in water, 'World War Z' also says that zombies can survive in water. I think they eat all the whales, too.

World War Z would make an excellent TV show or mini series. I think they are doing a movie but it would work better in a episodic format. There was stuff in that book that I hadn't read / seen in the zombie genre before like the whole training dogs for zombie warfare. Definitely more original than The Walking Dead show so far. I wouldn't mind so much if it wanted to be more character driven show if the characters weren't so broad. Like of course the main black guy's name is T-Dog. And the redneck's name is Darryl. I'm surprised they don't call Glenn Short Round. I'm curious about the comic books. Are they worth checking out? I've heard the show has deviated a lot from the books and the odd subplots like the whole nursing home were not in the comics.

I've read the comics and find them a bit more over the top in the storylines than the series and quite a bit darker. The characters in the tv show are a bit more white washed.
I'd recommend the comics. They move at a faster pace then the tv show for sure. I liked them quite a bit if very depressing. I don't recommend marathoning them though. I did that a while back and regretted it.
Lots of comic book spoilers that may spoil the upcoming tv show episodes:
Shane is much more obsessed with Lori in the comic books. So much so that he tries to kill Rick in order to win her back as well as regain his position as group leader. In the comics when Rick shows up the others all look to him for leadership and Shane is pushed to the wayside.
Carl shoots Shane in the head to save his father. This happens pretty early on but I suspect if it happens in the tv show it will much later, even next season. It started a rather intense storyline for Carl who becomes more and more desensitized as the comic goes on.
Lori and Shane only sleep together once on the road to Atlanta after the zombie epidemic happens and she regretted it. We find out later that she is pregnant. We never find out who the father is but Rick assumed it was Shane.
Both Lori and the baby (a girl) die soon after she gives birth during a zombie attack. The group is taking shelter in a prison.
Andrea is a bit older than Amy but both much closer to the age of tv Amy.
Andrea is the best shot of the group as well and helps show some of the others how to shoot. This is the big difference for me between the comics and the show. The comics don't have the women being shuffled off to wash and iron the clothes but rather just as good or better than the men in fighting.
The tv scene with Rick showing Andrea how to take off the safety on her gun pissed me off.
After Amy is killed Andrea and RV Dale start an affair. A bit of a cop out to age Andrea if they're going ahead with the Dale affair.
Merle and Darryl aren't in the comics.
Rick has his hand cut off in the comics which I'm assuming doesn't happen now. Kind of an over the top villian called "the Governor" does it, in an attempt to torture information out of Rick.
There's a great female character in the comics called Michonne. I hope we see her in the series. She traveled on foot by herself with 2 zombies chained up walking with her and she has a samurai sword as her weapon of choice.

That would piss me off too. I think the TV show can do much better with its female characters. They've redeemed themselves somewhat with the Andrea / Amy fishing scene, but can do better.
