I haven't heard Christmas Shoes, and I'm not going to seek it out. I remember when May You Dance was everywhere, and what helped was reading on some board (This one? Fametracker? Hissyfit? I don't remember) that to get through MYD, imagine that the girl is going to go dance on the stripper pole, and that right afterwards she gets beaten to death by her pimp, with her shoe. That thought makes May You Dance almost bearable. Is there any such rememdy for Christmas Shoes? Could the Christmas Shoes be the shoes used to beat the May You Dance girl to death? Ha! That was me! I remember writing on Hissyfit, "Yeah, I hope you dance, and I hope it involves laps and poles." Lyrically, "Christmas Shoes" is the worse song, but "Wonderful Christmastime" gets in my head and rattles around, and nothing short of listening to "Baby Got Back" 20 times in a row can get rid of it. So off to vote for "Wonderful Christmastime"!

Heh, Ripley, that's so funny!
My dad likes Manheim Steamroller, and he was so happy the year he had a 6 cd player and 6 MS cds. This year they played some nice Cuban Christmas music, so that was good.

Wrong. "Feliz Navidad" is obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and obnoxious and repetitive and...................... Hate! Hate! Hate!

For me, worst is "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." Why remind a child of any time s/he saw parents kissing...or worse? Also, in the modern age, it's too heternormic.

but forever1267, do you hate Feliz Navidad from the bottom of your heart? ;D I think we need a few more strings of "obnoxious and repetitives" to make that clear.

I will quietly admit to liking a bunch of Mannheim Steamroller stuff, just not especially the Christmas stuff. But just to clarify, here is what MS is all about: They are test discs to show off how good your stereo system is. Lots of dynamics, rich, but not boomy bass, plenty of tinkly treble bits to show off your liquid cooled neodymium dome tweeters. Back in the days before single men wasted their money on computers and video game systems, we blew our money on stupidly over-priced audio systems. To that end, I am still looking forward to the day when I will buy the laser turntable.Somehow, I seem to have been spared the shoe song, but I'm voting for it anyway, just from descriptions I have read. In real world behavior though? I am training MissP to change the station when "Wonderful Christmas" comes on.

You are right on the money here--my husband sells sound chips and I swear he doesn't listen to content--he listens to how good his stereo systems make everything sound. Makes me crazy. Thank you for your service to humanity and your excellent parenting.

I'd never heard the Mannheim Steamroller version of "Deck the Halls", and ended up watching this video. Maybe it's just that I've ingested the wrong substances ... S'Mores Luna bars lack the necessary hallucinogenic qualities. Or, you know, it could just be the inferior acoustics of my laptop speakers. The Patton Oswalt "Christmas Shoes" video was awesome, though!

ratscabies, your MS post just opened my eyes! My dad is a stereophile so the fact that he has every disc ever put out by them makes total sense. But it does make Christmas day a bit of an audio nightmare because he'll have them on ALL DAY!
