I wish I'd seen A Single Man in the theaters. I saw The Other Guys opening weekend; I think the audience energy was so high that it elevated the movie. It actually ended up as one of my few favorites of the summer.

I'm watching War Games on cable. The Cold War seems so quaint now.

I'm watching War Games, too. I love the floppy discs as big as his head, the dot matrix printers, the microfiche, and the glow of green text on a black computer screen. The early '80s had some great-looking machines (and they really did look like that back then, I can vouch for 'em).

Any Netflix Streaming recommendations? I have a slew of depressing or dark movies in my queue, (first 3 movies are: Let the Right One In, Thirst, The Cove...) so I would love something a little brighter or funny. I can't bring myself to watch any of the 40 things I have in queue after a workday. ETA: TV shows are good too but I would rather not get sucked into a TV show with 4 seasons or more! I am one of those people who feel compelled to finish something once I start and I don't know how good my level of commitment can be.

I have that same problem. I have a massive streaming queue of dramas, thrillers, etc. and I usually end up re-watching a movie I already saw.
Based on someone here recommendation I streamed "Stone of Destiny". It's based on a true story about some hapless Scots who want to steal the Stone of Destiny from the British Museum. It was really a funny, quirky movie.
Another movie that I streamed recently was Young Victoria with Emily Blunt. It's a drama but it was a light drama.

Lightish movies that I have seen recently on Netflix streaming: "City Island" and "Heartbreaker" (it's French and a bit ridiculous but fun and Vanessa Paradis is stunning). I thought "An Education" was really good, and its not too heavy.
For a great tv show that only has two seasons, please watch "Party Down".
If you want to watch a completely fucked up foreign film: "Dogtooth."

The early '80s had some great-looking machines (and they really did look like that back then, I can vouch for 'em). I'm so glad this came on again tonight. The last hour still keeps me at the edge of my seat (esp. as an adult, since I now recognize a lot of the countries Joshua used as 'strategies'). But that first "Shall we play a game?" was the first spooky computer I encountered in a movie (followed by 2001, Moon, etc.) And yeah, when my grade school started a "computer program", only students whose parents paid extra could take it, and our screens were green on black. There's nothing like an old movie to totally date myself.

For a great tv show that only has two seasons, please watch "Party Down". I loved that show! I was so bummed that it was canceled. I also thought that Jane Lynch was much better on this than on Glee. Tonight I watched Chloe and The Kids Are All Right. I am not sure why since I am not a Julianne Moore fan. Chloe was terrible. I did like The Kids Are All Right mainly for the kids. All the adults were kind of assholes.

I streamed Chloe as well and it was truly awful. It just confirms my poor opinion of Julianne's acting skills. Oy, she was bad in that movie.

We visited friends and watched a blaxploitation spoof, Black Dynamite, which was really funny and had a great cast. There were some Airplane!-level gags in there, and we're already planning a second viewing so we can catch the stuff we missed the first time around.
