Don't know what American Horror Story is, but if thinking that workers have a right to enforce no smoking laws in their workplace and if thinking that patients in a nursing home who may have asthma or other health issues have a right to clean air, I guess that is me. Glad that mrspickles' friends' relative made it to 96, but I still think that it he wants to smoke, he should go outside to do so. Smoking inside the nursing home seems selfish to me, but again, only my opinion.

Not to mention tings like oxygen tanks or other potentially flammable gases being a hazard in a nursing home.
However, if grandpa had been able to move off the property and have his beer and smokes away from dangerous appliances and people who wish not to be exposed, that seems like a pretty reasonable accommodation.
Topic? I went to see stand up comedy last night and one of the opening acts made some jokes about Adele. I like her stuff, though, and his jokes were pretty idiotic. Like, "you who's dumb? People who like Adele. And Drake, yuk yuk yuk." Is there anything really snarkable about her? I thought, with her, it was just a matter of taste and she hasn't done anything questionable or embarrassing.

Yeah, that is odd. Most of the online talk on her seems to be about her voice being awesome live, people really wanting to go to her concerts, how she is shifting music away from gimmicks and towards talent, and how her health is fucking up her tour plans. Oh! And that some people judge her for being overweight. None of that seems particularly snarkable.

I'm just a not a fan. Cannot really put my finger on it, I just don't like her. (And I used to be a fan). The only song of hers I can stand to listen to now is a remix of Hometown Glory, go figure.
I guess she kind of reminds of Alicia Keys, who I've always thought was terribly overrated.

She is a really good Halloween costume for curvy ladies, I just gave the idea to a friend. Black dress, pack of smokes, sit on a stool, done.

Is smoking really that cool anymore? I know that if you smoke around me or any of my friends you will get glared at. That may be because I hang out with a bunch of health nuts/outdoorsy types but even my art crowd friends don't smoke.
As far as vocalists, Miley Cyrus, Charlotte Church and Britney don't surprise me because I don't think any of them really think about the long term.

Fun fact: Paul McCarty recorded "Oh, Darling!" After a period of heavy smoking, because he wanted the song to have a rough, hard living bar lounge act sound to it. Also, John Mellencamp smoked something like 4+ packs a day before his heart attack. (!!!) But then... there are people like Whitney Houston who have wrecked their voices. Yeah, crack is different, but it's the smoking that is hard on the throat in general. So, I guess Adele is in good company. Though, I can't think of a big-voice act that was known to chain-smoke. The people listed above aren't really known for their powerful voices (Whitney Houston aside, because we know how that ended). Amy Winehouse had a big voice and she smoked cigarettes. Along with just about anything else she could find.

Sorry gang-I was trying to be brief, since I was so far off topic. My friend would bring the "items" then take his granddad outside for a walk while he smoked a cigarette, then they would go back inside and drink a beer or two while they watched sports. I believe that he mentioned his granddad smoking on his little patio, but the staff really came down on him for it, for all the reasons you guys listed. So no, no smoking around non-smoking staff, flammable gases or other seriously ill patients.

That may be because I hang out with a bunch of health nuts/outdoorsy types but even my art crowd friends don't smoke. I don't know if it's cool, but like magazinewhore, I still enjoy a cigarette or two with my drink when I go out . I used to be a regular smoker, the most I did was 1 pack/day and started just like most people did, because I was curious and thought it looked cool. Back when I was 16 not too many women smoked, so my friends and I thought we were such big rebels:) I started to cut down when the anti smoking law was passed in NY and now I only smoke occasionally when I go out with girlfriends but not on a daily basis. My husband who is very much anti smoking, has been a great influence as well. However, I lapse when I go to on vacations where smoking is permitted or when I hang out with people who smoke. I knew I was never going to be able to quit cold turkey, but at least I don't feel the need to smoke everyday. To bring this back to topic, I like some of Adele's songs, but I can't listen to her for too long because her songs begin to blend all in. I can take her in small doses only otherwise she gets too boring.

Yeah, smoking is still cool in some circles. I'm in my 30s, and most of my friends, coworkers, and family smoke. I work in a creative field, and there are pockets of groups that chain smoke like there's no tomorrow. I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to kill someone for making me stand outside with my beer in the cold so they can have a damn cigarette, or for making me sit by myself for a period so they could go out and smoke a handful of cigarettes. /bitter
Topic: I wonder how much canceling her tour will affect her career. Making it in the U.S. is a breakthrough moment for sure, but she has canceled two tours now, reportedly due to health issues (though I bet the first one was really canceled so they coud book larger venues), which is pretty ridiculous.
