Am I the only one still trying to watch? I only just started watching with the live shows, but they really stacked the deck for a female winner, didn't they? The men SUCK, while Candace and Angie are both pretty awesome. I'd love to see Candace win ... she's got an amazing voice.
I could really take it or leave it with these judges. Keith is the happy-go-lucky nice guy. Mariah is the butterflies and rainbows nice girl. Randy is useless. And Nicki ends up being the only decent judge? She's an annoying "look at me!" drama queen (as well as eye-rolling Mariah), but Nicki is still the only one who tells it like it is in pretty good detail. I don't know, I don't think this is a good lineup at all. It really hasn't been without Simon. Although I don't like X-Factor at all either, so figure that one out.

I think it's hilarious how Mariah avoids any eye contact with Nikki, never refers to her commentary on the contestants, and ignores any comments that Ryan or the others make about Nikki. It's like she's trying to will her into non-existence!

I've probably watched about 15 minutes total this season. I remember Candice from last year and thinking she was unjustly cut in Vegas, but if she wins this year, that will be a good story. I did LOL when I checked the entertainment headlines on my phone yesterday and one from the LA Times said something like, "Idol's White Guy Winning Streak Ends!" For the longest time, the "WGWG" talk was just something within the Idol fandom. Phillip did end up turning out to be a good winner for the show, at least for now--"Home" will become the best-selling song by any American Idol alum next week and his album is on its way to going platinum. The ratings are really bad this year, plus there's not going to be a Summer Olympics to give the coronation song a huge boost, so I don't know if the Season 12 winner will be so fortunate.

Good luck!
BTW, who the hell are the judges? So if auditions are already happening, who are they singing FOR? I know you likely have to go through like 5 or 6 levels of people before the "stars" see you audition. But I don't know how they're going to film in all these cities if no judges are there.

Good luck! BTW, who the hell are the judges? So if auditions are already happening, who are they singing FOR? I know you likely have to go through like 5 or 6 levels of people before the "stars" see you audition. But I don't know how they're going to film in all these cities if no judges are there. Apparently you go through three or four rounds in each city, depending on how many people show up, and you sing for the less important producers, of which there seem to be about thirty-eleven. Eight tables with two judges each, and contestants line up in groups of four, step forward and sing, all at the same time with nothing but space to separate them from someone else singing at the next table, then are kindly told that they are not quite right/ready/insane enough/sane enough for AI and dismissed, or are given a golden ticket to the next round. Then you sing for some of the higher-level producers, and if you make it through to the end of the day, you'll be given information about when the next rounds (with the celebrity judges) will be--usually in October/November. They cut and paste the show together to make it look like it all happens in one day. It doesn't. Today at the arena, we filled up almost half of the seats (with a lot of well-wishers and parents of under-age contestants). We got there at 5am, per instructions, waited outside for a long time while the crew got crowd shots, and were inside by 8. Lots of crowd shots inside, with Ryan Seacrest coming out, firing everyone up, and doing a few intros for the show with us in the background (our section was his background for every single intro he did). He even changed into a tux for intros to include in the finale--this show is scripted, pieced together, and completely thought-out well ahead of time. Divaspawn1 finally had her turn to sing around noon, by which time we had seen some outstanding talent dismissed and very, very few people advancing to the next round. Ds1 did a great job, but was told she wasn't quite ready. She's a little blue--nobody likes rejection--but I think she's okay with not being part of the machine. Which is not to say she won't try again someday--I just hope she'll wait until she's 18 and I won't have to accompany her unless she wants me to...[/tiredmom]

ETA -- I am sorry little Diva didn't make it through to the next round, but it's probably better because she's young. An experience like this can really wear you down.
Thank you for the insider scoop, divasahm! So is Ryan teeny tiny IRL?

I saw him from a seat on a riser that was probably 4-5 feet off the floor, and honestly, he didn't look THAT short. However, Peter Dinklage may be the only celebrity that I tower over, so I might not be the best judge of height. I must also tell you that Ryan looked fantastic, and was friendly, funny, and posed for pictures until his people dragged him away. Nothing snarky to report at all--nice guy.
