Well...I don't know if I'd use that strong a word on Fantasia...but I can tell you...I absolutely, positively have never been so happy that TIVO was invented in my life as when she started to sing last night.
I couldn't even watch for the train wreck value. My finger slipped off the forward button at once point and I caught a few seconds of hysterical screeching and shuddered uncontrollably for minutes afterwards.
Did, however, like Scotty and Lauren's duo (it is soooo strange. She seems so together and normal when she's singing and then, bang! Back to being the most clueless dumb blonde on the planet) and Band on the Run. (As well as the concept of making them showcase sing something else again rather than those stupid group numbers.)

I'm going to have to wear a blindfold during Jacob's segments from now on; he has quite a voice, but his over-the-top fey clown mannerisms are driving me to distraction. Same goes for James and those glowing ears.
Poor Stefano reels in the only negative commentary. Would it kill the judges to call a spade a spade from time to time? There are some swell singers this year, but every single one of 'em could benefit from the occasional honest critique.

Well, I've just started fast forwarding through the judges (and damn, that used to be the best part of the show!). JLO is on my last nerve with her inability to say anything negative without apologizing for it, OR, letting Randy say anything without interruption. I think Steven is just zonked out, high, Gary Busey-ish... so he calls everything "beautiful", and thanks them for singing. Blah.
I think I pretty much hated everyone. Sadly, I found Miss Big Hair Supreme's voice to be the nicest last night. Although having a teenager sing about who made her feel like a natural woman was creepy.
Ever since someone said that Pia had botox I can't stop looking at her giant unmoving head. I don't remember how old she is, but heads move. She's creepy. She has a good voice, but there's just something missing and I can never get into her.

Although having a teenager sing about who made her feel like a natural woman was creepy. Almost as creepy as having Paul smile, smile, smile his way through Folsom prison.. "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die" Yea! Yippee Skippee. In the end, I don't think I liked anyone last night. And I'm with you. There's something very, very wooden about Pia. And dear lord, who let Gwen Stefani loose on those poor children? Not. Good.

I'm the opposite: I didn't hate anyone last night; for me, no one tanked but no one blew the roof off either. I just hope Lauren isn't checking her mailbox daily for her Mensa membership card, because there is nothing going on inside that noggin.

Yeah, I didn't hate anyone either, which might be a first for me. I did think Hailey made a huge mistake with her song choice, though. Jacob was good as long as I wasn't looking at him. Paul's smiling was creepy, but it didn't bug me too much. It was the first time I've really liked him. (Or maybe I just really love Folsom Prison Blues and it bled over.)

Well Greecies, the show just ended tonight. Unless Scotty passes out on stage in the next few weeks, he has this thing in the bag.
Thanks to teen texting, a girl may never win AI again.

I grew up loving the big-voiced diva balladeers of the early 90's like Celine, Mariah, and Whitney in their prime and Pia was definitely a throwback to that style. However, she bored me. And I even like Leona Lewis and most people think she is boring. So I don't know what it is about Pia that doesn't really click with me.

I agree, I think Pia has a great voice, but she is so boring. She was completely devoid of personality during her performance last night. I thought she would make it further than this, but at this point I didn't think she was going to win, so I guess it doesn't really matter. Still a surprising elimination.

Myths about the show dispelled in American Idol: The Untold Story AI is happy to let people think it's tweens who are texting to death and not their moms/grandmas but the audiences of AI concerts and the increasing median of age of AI's viewership tell the story. The young girl demo was probably a big factor in Kelly, Carrie and Jordin winning and McPhee being a runner up, and as they've moved on to Glee or whatever, the fortunes of girls on the show have declined considerably. The AI and DWTS judges are ridiculous, giving mediocre contestants tongue baths and going on about how they're so charming and make everyone smile, but nitpicking the more talented ones to death. But then they act sooooo surprised when "America" doesn't vote for the person who was "clearly" the best and don't want to take any responsibility for how their comments might have led people to vote a certain way.
