Pia's song choice was not such a great idea, either. She needed somthing that would help her stand out, and that song wasn't it. I know they told her to do uptempo, and that's fine, but she should have picked something a little more well known that the audience could sing along to/with.

The one feature of the show I wish they would do away with is the judges' save. If people don't care enough to vote, they're not going to care enough to tune in to see the person or, if the person ends up winning, they're not going to care enough to spend money on the album.

Casey getting the fewest votes a couple of weeks ago was not such a travesty. He looked ridiculous (someone upthread mentioned Will Ferrell and maybe a yeti?) and his singing had become over-the-top growling with ridiculous facial contortions. He definitely has a better chance now that he's cleaned up a little and toned it down, but I was surprised the judges seemed to think he had a real shot at winning, enough to save him. He is not the sort of guy that has STAR written all over him. Kelly Clarkson did IMO and while Carrie Underwood didn't, she was enough of a blank slate that they could mold her into one. Casey is neither of those things.

I guess I have to agree. Pia was boring. There was a weird disconnectedness, coldness to her singing. Couldn't imagine buying her records. No warmth in the voice...just fabulous technique, power, and pitch. But as we know, sometimes, that does not a best-selling artist make.

Somebody over at Idol had better get the blonde bubble head back on track right quick. I don't know what they did to her, but not only is her personality way, way off from when she started (annoying, but definitely bubbly, upbeat, and fun...now just a box of dumb rocks) but she's also holding back on the singing for some weird reason. She's the only girl with a chance to win now...better let that voice loose...

Those judges and their gnashing of teeth -- so ridiculous. If everyone is wonderful, beautiful, amazing, in it to win it, then how can the "wrong" person be eliminated? A show that features Constantine Maroulis as entertainment and Russell Brand as inspiration is not exactly shooting for high art anyway.

I thought Gwen Stefani looked like she was being asked to cuddle a leper the way she hugged those girls during their fashion segment.

I blame Gwen Stefani (for that hideously unflattering garment) and Botox for Pia's downfall. Last night, even when she was crying, her face remained placid and frozen. It was disturbing to watch. I'm convinced that she'd have had a better chance to show passion and emotion if her face hadn't been shot full of Botox.

And Alicia Keyes? This can happen to you, too--lay off the needles, people!

I'm not surprised. There are pageant moms who are giving botox to their 8 year olds.

As for Pia, good riddance. Sorry but I never liked her, she's wooden and fakey and screeches the high notes in a way that isn't fit for much more than a salmonella-riddled cruise ship.

I admit to doing a little laugh out loud at JLO's anger and despondency. You can't tell these kids that they're all musical geniuses and not expect it to implode. You always knew that when Simon smacked someone down - they didn't last long. JLO herself gave just about the ONLY negative comment TO Pia when she told her to "study" (translation: You and your freaky shiny forehead are as stiff as a board).

It didn't take long for Pia to famewhore around, though. She's already dating Mark Tool Ballas. Or at least they both want to be seen out together.

Paul's going out with Nikki Reed from Twilight. Haley and Casey apparently have a thing going, too.

I never noticed Pia's forehead. It was sort of square-ish but I never would've thought Botox. She's so young. I liked her when they first showed her singing Grenade and during the group songs, but she was never like that when she performed by herself. The next theme is Movie Songs and she'd planned to sing "Somewhere" from West Side Story.

The Celine Dion ballad thing doesn't really work unless you actually are Celine Dion.

I don't think the Celine Dion ballad thing would even work for her if she were starting out today.

There are all these Youtube videos of Pia pre-Idol singing "Rehab" and Lady Gaga songs and other upbeat stuff from the last ten years. I don't know why she didn't sing more upbeat songs on the show, without the judges having to beg her to stop it with the ballads first.
