I finally got around to watching the premiere, and I kind of loved it. Without reading the book, it wasn't too confusing to understand the family dynamic in WinterFall (especially since they kindly lined up the kids when the king arrived), and how the incestuous blondes killed the king's right hand man ( also kindly calling him the King's Hand) . I like the look of the forest and the Wall, and I really liked the title sequence with the clockwork castles - it had me at Hello.
My husband really liked all the nekkid chicks... funny that.

I don't know the books at all, but I liked the look of the premiere very much, and I'm able to follow the story and characters fairly well. Gotta say, I wasn't expecting so much incest.

Prince Joffrey is weasly looking little punk. A thousand times yes to this. I wanted to slap the smug off his pointy little face and he didn't really do anything except just sit there. In other words, he's just like in the book!

I haven't read the books (hadn't even heard of them) but I LOVED this. LOVED! I pretty much love Sean Bean whatever he does, so that was a big draw for me, but once I watched the whole world and the whole cast really drew me in. I'm hooked!

I think I have a new fandom. After seeing the premiere I got the first book and am about 1/4 of the way through it. All I can say is that we're in for a hell of a ride. I'm also checking out the Song of Ice and Fire pages on TV Tropes (I don't mind spoilers) and, well, let's just say it would be wise not to get too attached to some of the characters, even the major ones. (Spoilered for people who haven't read the books).

I didn't even realized how hooked I was until today. I've watched the premiere three times already, and have read the who's who, what's what on the HBO site several times. I've also been counting down the days until the next episode. It is killing me inside to not look for spoilers. ETA: After watching episode 2, my mind is making some interesting leaps as to the true parentage of Jon Snow. This is all speculation, but is it possible that Ned's sister and the King are John's parents? It was weird how Ned called John a Stark, but not his son when Jon left for the wall. And who would give their child to the father to raise as a bastard when he has a pissed off wife waiting at home for him. This isn't adding up for me. Or could it be that Jon is Cersei's son, the one she thought died? What the heck is going on? And I didn't really see it until this week, but the casting of Cersei and Jamie as twins was impeccable. Favorite moments: Prince Draco getting bitch slapped thrice, and everything with Tyrion. Poor Lady. Sniff

RIP Lady. An innocent victim of the treachery of Westeros. You know this world is dark when the lightest storyline this week was Dany learning the faux Kama Sutra to avoid getting pounded from behind by her husband.

Indeed. I have only listened to part of the books on tape version of "Game of Thrones", and the one thing I recall is how GRRM pulls no punches in depicting how brutal life in a feudal society teetering on the brink of war would be; not even the people on top would be safe. In a way, I really appreciate that, this isn't Tolkien or Disney's bowdlerized version of European fairy tales.
The gang from "I, Claudius" would be at home in Westeros, that's for sure.

Sean Bean (and Mark Addy) were made for their roles. I'm not sure I could even see Bean in a modern/futuristic movie after LOTR and this. (I've seen some of his older movies, he's good, but this is clearly his niche). It did take me out of the moment a little wondering if his marriage woes overlapped filming. I'm enjoying this and Peter Dinklage is awesome. I have to say, everyone constantly calling Jon Snow the "bastard" makes me cringe every time. It's used so casually, like the N-word in another time: "Here's the bastard! Hey bastard, are you ready for war?" Jeez. ETA: Someone else had a similar reaction[/color].
