They nominated every damn actor so I'm oddly glad for it. It meant some people got shut out but it was the final season of a global phenomenon...it was always going to happen.

Yeah, nominating so many of the actors is probably more of a "lifetime achievement award" thing, but IMO most have done outstanding work at some point in the series, so whatever. Frankly, I think some of them deserve recognition how they dealt with the uneven/crappy writing they were given towards the end. Dinklage got some wonky stuff. Clarke and Coster-Waldau were given arcs that worked in theory, but needed to be much more cohesive and better written. Headey and NCW probably deserved their noms alone for somehow selling their death scene, no matter that it was surrounded by nonsense.

I still can't believe 32 nominations!

Lord. Publications like Newsweek are all, "The nominations prove that the fans were wrong to hate it! It was actually good!" Since when did Emmys nominations (or any showbiz award nominations) come about only when something is good and not out of habit or (as pointed out above) some sort of "lifetime achievement" type of thinking?

And if anything, the Emmys are a particularly egregious 'we nominated them before so we'll nominate them again' offender! I feel like it's really common for shows to win in certain categories every year they air, regardless of quality.

Several weeks back, I saw a story on ONTD about a show that was manipulating the nomination process. The show and the actors involved weren't named, but it instinctively felt like GoT. And after seeing 32 noms, I feel almost certain it was.

I just read that HBO didn’t submit Gwendoline Christie for an Emmy, so she submitted herself and got a nomination without the network backing her and pushing for it. Good for her. She was so happy about the nom yesterday, and now I really see why. Now I hope she wins just to be all, “Suck it, HBO. Brienne was awesome.”

The show was nominated for every award ever because it's their last chance to do so, and because they should have nominated people in past seasons and didn't, so they're trying to make up for it.
The last season was crap and everyone knows it. Including the showrunners and their sycophants.
