He has been a coke and alcohol addict for the longest, so not surprising this has happened. He has a crappy marriage where he cheats all the time and now he is jobless. It was bound to happen sooner or later. But his people trying to spin it as the end of GOT causing it is crappy. A crappy script does not cause someone to become an addict.
And everyone should have known their fate. Kit chose not to read his script until the table read and Liam couldn't open his script which was sent electronically. So Conleth probably hadn't read it.

Yeah, Emilia has read the script. Kit saved it for the table read.

I hope rehab helps him, it seems like he has been having problems for a while now. Rumors of alcohol abuse and cheating have been following him for years. I find that the older I get the more sympathy and empathy I have for people who live in the public eye. I'm tremendously shy and pretty sensitive, so I can't imagine what it's like to live in the spotlight, it's like my worst nightmare. I realize these people chose this job and seek out the fame, but after a while the pressure of it all must get to them. Promotional touring, and the overall negative reaction to the finale, did those push him over the edge? I'd hate to see someone's greatest success be their ultimate downfall, so I hope he gets better.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that we're all wounded children on some level. Fame doesn't take those feelings of unworthiness away, and in many cases, it just exacerbates them.
If he put his entire identity into being Jon Snow, and on a hit show, then having the public turn negatively on him wouldn't have helped his fragile ego. There could be a million other things going on that we're not privy to, and his PR team did their job and created a tidy narrative for the public.
I'm not a fan, but I've heard the rumors that he's an alcoholic and cheater too. I applaud anyone who seeks help. It's not easy looking into your soul's darkness. There's usually a lot of shame attached to it.

Well, and it could be he's been needing rehab for sometime but now that the show and the press junkets are wound up it's the first opportunity he's had to work on himself. Hope it goes well, but wife should not put up with cheating whether he gets clean or not.

I've purposely stopped thinking about the show because it's too disappointing and frustrating to think about what might have been. But I was watching one video, which referenced this video, and I busted out laughing multiple times. It doesn't heal wounds, but it is funny in a "release some stress" kinda way. Enjoy.

Thanks for that. I'm also awaiting Lindsay Ellis's part two of her breakdown on GoT ( Part one is here, but it seems like the meat will be in part two.) I enjoy her deep dives, and she pretty much nailed why I hated the live action Beauty and the Beast. It's been somewhat interesting to see the aftermath. Apparently the guy who was the "Jaime" stand-in was over on Reddit and while he was mostly positive about his experience on the show and didn't bad mouth anyone (smart move), he did say that the last season felt a bit disorganized and he got the feeling there was some behind-the-scenes stuff going on that was causing it (but he didn't know what it was). And now some of the actors are hitting the cons, and it was pretty funny to see video of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau being all, "Well, the ending was...a thing that happened." He also said it was fine to hate it, just, you know, lay off the death threats. And he mentioned that the cast are all on a group text and a lot of them were worried that people were going to hate them after the final season. NCW stepped in all, "Don't worry - no one is blaming you" (So...yeah. He found a lot of ways of acknowledging that it was kinda terrible and people were unhappy without directly trashing the producers).

The actors have really been giving a masterclass in 'how to promote/talk about a shitty project.' I guess it helps that none of them are really super famous on their own and it is such a large ensemble (so no single one of them is under a super intense microscope), but it's really amazing none of them have just plain cracked. (YET.)

Dumb Emmys rant here - so glad that Gwendoline Christie got nominated. Just for the knighting scene alone. But Lena Headey? I love her, but she had absolutely nothing to do this last season. She was barely in it, and when she was, she was mostly standing around looking out the window.
Also, Kit Harrington got nominated? I guess for standing around saying, "She's my queen." Emilia Clarke was nominated as well, but I'm mostly okay with that. She's not the strongest actress and she was given total garbage to work with, but I think she really tried her hardest to make something decent out of it.
