Finally a reality show that isn't mean! It's like we've been conditioned to point and laugh at people on our TV's the last 10 years. It's good to know that it's possible to make an entertaining and successful reality show that doesn't humiliate people. More please. This. AI was such a slap in the face to a lot that had true talent (but didn't fit the looks mold) and 5 minutes of fame for those that were just there to goof around, waste our time or were too seriously to realize that they had no business being there. I haven't watched AI since the first season (only bits and pieces since then) and this is such a breath of fresh air! I'm glued to this one! And how fun was it to watch all the coaches/judges perform in the beginning? TALENT!

What I loved about it was that, beyond not mocking the poor singers and the unfortunate looking auditioners, they almost seemed to celebrate those who are different, or not conventionally attractive. And it seemed like there was a huge diversity in the families- I only saw the last half hour or so, and I saw a black man with a hispanic father and white mother, a lesbian couple and a hispanic man with a white wife and 2 absolutley adorable kids. Could it be that we finally have a colorblind reality show that celebrates diversity rather than pigeon holing contestants? I really really hope so.

Someone else already mentioned this, but I love that there's a shift/play with the power dynamic. That's going to be interesting to see develop... at least, I hope so. With AI, no one could say to the judges, "Yeah, so I don't LOOK like a typical pop star, but...." or "You may think I need to break out of my mold by ____ but I tried it before and look what happened."

Don't forget the African American guy with the white mormon parents. I literally gasped when they showed him. I love that about the show, the diversity. Same sex couples, multi cultural couples and families... Awesome!

You guys a making the show so great, I'm going to have to "find" it online. But about the voting procedure. I'm assuming the first few weeks the judges pick "teams". So after the set number of people are picked, then what? Do the teams compete against one another? Does one group of singers perform individually each week? Does the home audience call in and vote? Is there only one winner? What's the prize?

Is there only one winner? What's the prize? It's not hard to find . . . you can watch it free on NBC's website. It's also on Comcast cable's On Demand. As for judging, the site explains it. The coaches make the first round of cuts, then when they get to live performances, the tv audience votes to keep a member of each team, and the coach has to decide who else stays and who goes. When they're down to the final 4 (one for each coach), viewer votes decide the winner, who gets a recording contract plus $100,000.

I liked the show. The judges are actually talented and were having fun with the contestants and with each other. The blind judging works well and all of the contestants were talented--even the ones who didin't get picked. My only critique is that I thought the show was too long with too many commercials.

Ahh, that's the magic of the DVR. I don't think I've watched a show live in years (seriously, I ALWAYS let myself get at least a half an hour behind and then click through the crap)!

I've been listening to the studio versions of the chosen ones and wow, even the weakest singer is really good. I'm on Teams Tarralyn, Rebecca, Vicci, Beverly, Javier and Tje. I'm excited for next week!
