I would watch this just for Melissa McCarthy.

Oh man, I need to wander over to the unpopular movie opinions thread. It took me three days to watch this movie (I kept turning it off to go to bed... yeah. Not a good sign). I did not like this flick, and I was really wanting to like it. Ug. It just sort of hurt to watch. And I never even cracked a smile. So disappointed. I wanted to like this too. Bummer. Right there with ya, sister -- hated it so much I finally left Mr. S. to finish it himself. The only part I found amusing was at the beginning when Maya and Kristen's characters were clowning around together -- it was really sweet and genuine, and I wondered whether they were ad-libbing. The rest of it was just painfully bad for me.

Melissa is declining to do a sequel without Wiig's involvement.

No Melissa McCarthy? No stina.
She made the first one.

Good for Melissa! Honestly, as much as I loved the movie I don't think a sequel is necessary. I'd like to see Wiig and McCarthy work together doing something else.

Just watched this, and I am in the camp of...meh. There were parts I laughed hard at, but the movie just got depressing for me, and I started getting angry at Helen undermining Annie, and Annie just spiraling down. It wasn't that funny. I started feeling really surly watching this! I don't know. I can't stand women that act this way; ugh. The only part that made me emotional was when Lillian freaked about "this is the last night I'm going to be in this apartment!" because that DOES happen. The night before I permanently moved in with now-Husband (then Boyfriend), we were working and cleaning, and I was doing fine, but as soon as I unplugged the TV, I BROKE DOWN. Sounds weird, but that was always a constant in my place, the TV, and it was like the heart of MY apartment had stopped. It's a very weird thing, being a single woman for years, making it on your own, and moving in with a man. And like Annie said in the movie, it's "better," but it's still hard.
Anyway. I feel like this was like the Hangover for me. The hype was built up too much, and I went in expecting to be blown away, and in the end, I just sort of shrugged.

I loved this movie...which is why I am against a sequel. They just so rarely live up to expectations, and leave people like us comparing them to the original ad infinitum. I'd rather have the brilliant original in my mind and not go further. Sadly, Hollywood never listens to me.

Bring the same awesome cast together, just do a different story with different characters. [Like A Mighty Wind and Best in Show.]

Bring the same awesome cast together, just do a different story with different characters. [Like A Mighty Wind and Best in Show.] That's a great idea! We saw it last night for the first time and loved it. It was mis-marketed as a gross-out, fratboy type of comedy but I guess that was just to get people in the door. I was surprised at how bittersweet it was and how discreet the one real gross scene was. All the hype of "oh my god, you won't belieeeeve how disgusting it is!" was ridiculous. My biggest laughs: 1) "I've seen better tennis playing in a tampon commercial." 2) Puppies as party favors. Puppies with pink berets. 3) "Hey, fuckbuddy!" 4) Bill Cozbi. 5) Her mom's paintings. Rick Springfield!
