Oh yay, there are some outtakes, including MOAR HAMM SEX. Melissa McCarthy is priceless.

Saw it tonight with a few friends and thought it was cute though not as funny as I've been hearing. There were some laugh out loud moments but they were few and most of the movie seemed to be focused on Annie being a selfish bitch wallowing in her own self pity and only caring about herself. Like the one character said she's an "asshole". And her outburst at the shower was beyond low. So I couldn't feel any sympathy for her or care about her story. And I've been in that position before - lost my job, shitty relationships while having to be in a wedding. I certainly never threw a temper tantrum about it.
I guess I didn't find it any different than any other chick flick out there. And Maya Rudolph is so ugly it was distracting.

I really enjoyed and appreciated the layers of complexity the characters had. Like making Megan's character more than just a one-note tomboy. I agree that Annie acted terrible at the shower, but I think that was sort of the point. They made it credible that a sympathetic character could act like that. I agree that it's representation of female friendship was deeper than I expected.

The penis demonstration was hysterical.

Just saw it and loved it. There definitely were a few jokes where the punchline was simply "That girl is fat," which is lame, but they seemed to be in the beginning of the movie and then stopped once her character developed more. I didn't realize it was going to be a Besties movie, so that was a pleasant surprise. I'm not exactly sure what I thought it was going to be because I had never seen any previews, I've only read about it here and in some entertainment articles. But it was really funny. I definitely want to get the dvd because I bet there are some awesome outtakes. And the gross out scene wasn't that gross.
And I like Kristen Wiig in a movie million times better than on SNL. She was awesome! And Maya Rudolph was gorgeous and hilarious. (jynni, I can't believe you think she's ugly! That just blew my mind!)

I thought this was not nearly as funny as I was hoping it would be. Although, I think it was well written and played out, it was truly a sad, sad film! There were LOL moments sprinkled throughout, but I felt so horribly sad for Annie. Helen was an f-ed up bitch that deserved some serious payback. The shower scene didn't tick me off, but made me cheer! I was all for Annie finally speaking up and calling Helen out on her shit. I mean, seriously, WHO DOES ALL THAT?! I would have been livid if this random chick honed in on my BFF where I was the MOH of her wedding and completely did every thing she could to upstage me. That was pretty low, not to mention I think she completely knew what drugs she gave her on the plane. Plus, she came over in to coach and gave her some scotch to wash it down. Thanks, h0r!
I have to admit I got a little teary at times and hated moments where people where calling Annie an "asshole" for not thinking about others. And I wanted some closure with her cake business. When Megan said she was Moneybags McGee, I was thinking that maybe she'd invest in her or something? And how Nathan (the cop) was really pushing for her to not give up and to try again, made things point to that kind of ending but instead, I thought the ending just fell flat.
Although, Wilson Phillips was a nice and nostalgic touch. HA! It had people in the audience singing "Hold On". I couldn't resist but to join in.

I saw this yesterday and liked it a lot. Melissa McCarthy was the best part for me. When she whispered "I've got first watch" in the plane, I died laughing.
And I was just as psyched to see Wilson Phillips as Annie and Lillian. I, too listened to 'Hold On' a bazillion times in the car when I got my driver's license in 1990.

Ugh. I thought Melissa McCarthy was the only good part. Annie was so. fucking. depressing. For a comedy (or was it? I don't even know. I know that's what it was MARKETED as, but when I walked out I was kind of regretting spending $$ on it) it was way, way too long. Especially the damned Annie/Helen MUST OUTDO YOU speeches. And Annie dumping all over the shower. Yeah, Helen was a d-bag for it, but it wasn't HER day, it was Annie's BFFs party! Insufferable beetch.
I didn't think Maya was, um, particularly pretty in this either.

I think that the viewer wasn't supposed to be sympathetic to Annie destroying the shower. She couldn't even destroy the love cookie very well, and the chocolate fondue burned her, and she really did look like a butthole doing it.
I personally found that sort of thing appealing, though. Muriel Heslop is grifting shoplifter and a very depressing character, and the audience isn't supposed to find it charming, but I definitely want her to win. I think Annie is that same sort of sympathetic mess that I find very appealing.

Annie started behaving like an asshole at the engagement party, and her childish outbursts kept escalating until her massive freak out at the shower. Even if she's not particularly likeable, you're still kind of rooting for her to get it together.
I agree with chonies's comparison to Muriel's Wedding. Yes, Tania is a petty, mean bitch, but Muriel is kind of awful. And yet, you still want things to work out for her.
