Saw it last night. Loved it. The CGI is really good, and the actor that played Caesar was awesome. I found the first half heartwrenching and cried through a lot of it. I was definitely rooting for the apes to wipe us all out by the end. i think the movie was a great addition to the series. The shot with Caesar charging on the horse was beyond awesome - seriously iconic shot and a great reference to the other films.

Loved this movie! Very tight, nothing seemed like filler, all the various bits & pieces meshed (script, acting, directing, photography, sound, CGI). Caesar/Serkis was awesome. Nice references to previous flicks (was it Caesar playing with a model of the Statue of Liberty at one point?) I'm not usually a fan of prequels but this series has been crying out for a kick-ass kick-start for decades.
I'd like to see a sequel to this prequel, for the interregnum when humans are busy buying the farm and apes are taking over. There have been a lot of end of the world movies but this would be a new take, with apes waiting in the wings. Please, Hollywood, I don't ask for much. Just don't let Tim Burton anywhere near it.

Isn't this a reboot and not a prequel?

Was there another prequel at some point?

Well, it's a prequel in the sense that it explains how the apes took over the world. There was a prequel made in the '70s to go with the original POTA, but this is a different explanation leading to the same result.

Ahhh, ok. That predated me then. It's interesting when you're in a movie rooting *against* the humans. I thought Franco was just ok, not bad or anything, but his reaction in his last scene with Ceasar.... He looked legitimately shaken. Which was great, as my reaction was all "OH SH^T!"

Just came back and loved it. I haven't seen any of the others so all the references were lost on me (except for the 'dirty ape' line), but I still thought it was fantastic. Like everyone else, I was genuinely rooting for the apes, but I think the orangutan might have been my favorite. Above all, I'm glad that age-old question of gorilla v horse/helicopter--who would win? has finally been answered.

Just came back and the movie was awesome. Loved all of it and was happy to see the apes kick some ass. Was bummed about the gorilla though.

I enjoyed it for the most part and was gripped by Caesar's arc. On the other hand, Caesar was the only character in the entire film WITH an arc, which wasn't so enjoyable. And, for a protagonist, Franco's character didn't in any way own the fact that his bad and unethical decisions caused the unnecessary deaths of an awful lot of people and animals.

I agree, the movie needed a "main human" and Franco was it. I've seen it twice already, but I'm really so impressed with the CGI & Ceasar (and the orangutan) I'm considering a 3rd viewing (matinee though).
