Saw this yesterday and loved it. I thought it was creepy, sad, and thought provoking. My son thought it was excellent snarking material. Either way it's very entertaining. I thought the saddest scene was when Ceasar looked up at the neighbors looking down on him in horror. That was the turning point for him. Why yes, I'm talking about the inner thoughts and emotions of an ape. What of it?!

I liked it too. Though I feel like they put far more effort into Caesar and the other apes than they did the humans. Frieda Pinto's role was completely thankless and James Franco didn't even have that much to work with.

I guess Andy Serkis has a niche as the guy who does motion capture for cgi characters really well, it's his third such performance and it was excellent.

I cried when Caesar got taken away from Will and put in the abusive sanctuary. Yes, I'm that person.

But, yeah, I enjoyed it a lot. I thought the underlying message was definitely thought-provoking and improved on the original films' premise (of man destroying themselves). The CGI and motion capture were amazing--absolutely amazing.

Totally agree. Having said that, James Franco may be insufferable, but I liked his "chemistry" with Caesar/Andy Serkis. Their last scene together was especially touching.

I'm surprised it did well at the box office. I thought it looked like a ridiculous shitfest. But then I thought the same about Transformers and every comic book movie ever made so I'm probably not the target audience.

Heh. First scene of sequel should be a cameo of JF on his death bed utterly "oops, my bad" before he goes to that great sanctuary in the sky.

I went in thinking it was going to be terrible and my boyfriend and I were going to make fun of it forever, but we came out of the theater having decided it was the best movie of the summer. It certainly wasn't because of the actors, who were just sort of okay- it was all about Caesar and his development. You know what's coming, but the entire arc is really well-done, and I was super involved the entire time. I do think it should be renamed to How James Franco Destroyed Humanity in Three Easy Steps, though.

Serkis is doing another performance capture role in Spielberg's upcoming Rin Tin Tin movie (which seems like a silly choice of subject to me, because really, how popular is it to modern moviegoers, but who knows?)

It's too bad Serkis does so much great acting in these popular movies, but can't be nominated for acting awards. Or can he?

I loved this movie! I thought it was the best of the summer big budget movies. I was really engaged with Caesar's story and thought they did a great job with his story. True the humans were mostly just there but at least they didn't detract from the story.

I was also one of those people who was gutted when Caesar kept asking if it was time to go home now.

Not at the Oscars, at least not until they remove the stick from their ass. They tried to get him nominated for LotR but the Academy refused. Mtv did make up a category one year (Best Virtual Performance) so he could actually win something.
