All right, I'm going to hell for this post, but here we go; I hate the following iconic movies; "The Wizard of Oz" (which I loved as a kid), "It's a Wonderful Life", and "The Sound of Music".

I also hate 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'It's a Wonderful Life' -- you are not alone!

Ooh, I'm popping popcorn! What's with the It's a Wonderful Life hate? I know it has problems (up to and including Frank Capra has been described as a fascist) but I like it because I classify it as a movie that gets under my skin.

Hell, this might actually fit better under the True Confessions thread, but I've never actually been able to sit through an entire showing of It's a Wonderful Life. I basically make it to the part where Donna Reed and Jimmy Stewart are dancing and fall into the pool, and I leave the room. I will admit it has been maybe ten years since I've tried, so there's a possibility I would like it now, but frankly, I'm kind of "meh" about it. My Christmas movies are A Christmas Story ("You'll shoot your eye out!) and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I'm sentimental enough during the holidays without having movies make me tear up, too.

In my case, it's because I had to watch it a lot as a kid. I love Jimmy Stewart, but hate this movie. Plus Donna Reed is so sappy, Violet the flirt was much more fun. She'd have gone traveling with George.

She'd have gone traveling with George. I thought Mary and George were on their way to leave for a world tour when the bank run happened. It was their honeymoon, but it still looked like a pretty full schedule. That aside, I love to provoke this conversation because I think this movie is really just a big Rohrshach test. I strongly dislike A Christmas Story because everyone in it bugs me to pieces. I don't really have any nostalgia for it, and I wonder if I just need a break from it. ETA: roisin, the librarian thing was for me, too. I know it was portrayed as sad/bad in the film, but 21st century me is happy she had a job and didn't marry Sam Wainwright. I wonder if the story would have had the same impact if Spinster Mary had been a nurse or teacher.

I HATE A Christmas Story with the white hot passion of a thousand burning suns. I might have liked it a little bit if my brother hadn't forced me to watch it so many times, but I really just don't see what's so special about it. But really, being subjected to a 24 hour marathon of something against ones will will make one hate it. So that's totally my brother's fault.
I don't really like Its a Wonderful Life Either. It's dreadfully boring until the what-if-George-was-never-born bit, and even then it's a bit annoying. I'm a librarian so I find the Oh no! Mary's a librarian! How awful! thing kind of offensive.

My people. I was overexposed to A Christmas Story before I ever saw the damn thing, thanks to other people quoting it incessantly, and It's A Wonderful Life does nothing for me either.
My favorite Christmas movie will always be The Ref. "Go ahead, shoot her."

I love you people. Other than Darren McGavin, I absolutely loathe A Christmas Story. Unfortunately, everyone in my family and Mr. S's thinks it's the shit, so I end up seeing it at least twice each Christmas.

Even though it has the awful Mel Gibson in it, our go to Christmas movie is Lethal Weapon.
