It's funny because I'm kind of the opposite, where I always drag my feet on watching Woody's stuff because I'm put off by what a repulsive person he is. But I almost always end up liking his films when I do watch them. Vicky Christina Barcelona was a really pleasant surprise of a movie.

I haven't seen Vicky Christina Barcelona yet, so maybe I'll look into it, and the premise of Blue Jasmine seems interesting enough, but maybe I'll give it a whirl. What's the film version of the 100 page rule?

I'd say if you've gotten a ways into Javier Bardem's scenes and you still don't like it, it's safe to turn off. He and Rebecca Hall were the standouts for me. I have to say that I'm not always on the same page philosophically with Woody's films, but in every one I've seen*, there's at least one acting performance I'm glad I came for.
* Which, due to the aforementioned foot-dragging, isn't an exhaustive list of Woody's movies by any means, so take that FWIW.

Forrest Gump, which I just watched on Netflix, is still a pretty entertaining movie.

Forrest Gump, which I just watched on Netflix, is still a pretty entertaining movie. I have to kind of agree. I saw this in high school (on a date, ooooh) and then eventually became too smart, too snobby, too interesting to like it anymore. I caught it the other day on cable, found myself engrossed and was able to think about it in a different way.

I saw Silver Linings Playbook and thought it sucked. My mom loved it but it left me cold. I just don't get it, it was boring and I couldn't wait for it to be over. It was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I don't know where this falls on the Unpopularity scale, but I don't care for Woody Allen films, utterly separate from his personal life. I don't know if I've seen enough Woody Allen to fully appreciate him, because I always find myself bored by his movies. He's like a genre you know was influential and you have to slog through in order to seem like a literate person, but really just think about all the time wasted. I've seen all of his movies up until VCB. I kind of lost interest with Match Point; it just didn't do it for me. I always find it interesting when someone doesn't like his 80s films because I love them. Purple Rose of Cairo is one of my all-time favorite films...so poignant, so melancholy.

It was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I didn't hate it as much as you but I definitely thought it was thoroughly mediocre and was baffled by all the Oscar love it got. Forrest Gump, which I just watched on Netflix, is still a pretty entertaining movie. It really is! Tom Hanks is damn good as Forrest. Yes, the movie has the full on Hollywood schmaltz formula but it works. I still think Shawshank is the better movie and should have won the Best Picture Oscar that year but I can understand why Forrest Gump won.

It was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I hated it because it wasn't what I expected, which was a love story about two people struggling with mental illness. It started out that way but then turned into a celebration of sports betting. It didn't make sense to me that a movie that is supposed to address mental illness in an honest way decided that persistent gambling is a fun and exciting hobby that brings people together rather than the mental disorder it actually is.

You know, I think that's what I hated about it. It started off as a love story, which was very interesting, and then suddenly everybody was talking about football and I was like huh? When did this become a movie about football?
