Not liking The Hobbit is not really unpopular on this board, so my unpopular movie opinion is that I LOVE the Hobbit movies. Not as much as I loved the LOTR movies, but I'm so happy to be back in the universe that I don't care how much Peter Jackson drags out the movies. I haven't had a movie experience like these since LOTR. Same here. Though I could've done without all of the Tauriel/Legolas stuff. My unpopular opinion is that I don't think Star Trek: Into Darkness was bad. There were problems, yes, but I think calling it "the worst Star Trek movie ever" is going a bit overboard.

I'm enjoying The Hobbit movies, though I definitely prefer the recent one way more than the first, but I'm not loving them. And I absolutely loved the LOTR trilogy. To me, it does feel like they're trying to make it into something it's not, not to mention the studio is certainly trying to milk it for what it's worth.

Re-watching Mary Poppins on Disney last night, in preparation for Saving Mr. Banks, I still don't get it. I didn't like it as a kid, and I still don't. What little story there is is interrupted by a song every 5 minutes, many of which don't add much to the story. Everything is broadly done, and Julie Andrews' performance is more reactionary to what's going on than a full performance. She was much better in The Sound of Music and Victor / Victoria. Some cute songs, but it is soooo sloooooowwww.

You can blame that on Walt Disney. Mary Poppins the book character apparently is quite dark and stern in comparison, definitely not as overly sweet'n nice as in the movie. Also she was supposed to be a rather plain woman, which we all can agree Julie Andrews is not.

I find Mary Poppins difficult to watch, and when I do catch it, I'm always disappointed it's not Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

I'm giving Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull another try. It's on right now. I was violently opposed to it when Shia LaDouche was cast as the NEXT GEN INDIANA!!! But when that came not to be (even though it killed the franchise) I am actually okay with it now. I think I can be removed enough to give it a fair shake now. But Harrison Ford looks so old.

My UMO is that I didn't mind Crystal Skull because I love that Erich von Däniken/Ancient Aliens pseudoscience (as in, I like reading about it and what it ~~~means~~~ on a ~cultural~ thingy). And Crystal Skull is the only Indiana Jones movie I've seen all the way through, so there's that.
