When people say his full frontal is impressive, are they talking length, circumference or both?

I've heard it's impressive in terms of both, and frequency displayed.

I've heard it's impressive in terms of both, and frequency displayed. That is correct. The boy was blessed.... That he was. Good Lord. This opened in my neck of the woods today so I went to see it. I have to agree with whoever said the three way scene was emotionally jarring, and Fassbender did somehow manage to age 10 years in minutes. It was amazing. You definitely get the sense that he really doesn't want to live that way but he doesn't know how to stop.

Fassbender was named best actor by the LA Film Critics. He placed 2nd (behind Brad) in the Boston Film Critics picks and 2nd (behind Michael Shannon) in the New York Film Critics Online picks.

I was desperate to see this and watched it on Tuesday. I was only semi-interested when it was showing at BFI, but since then my interest (and Fassbender fixation) has grown, so serves me right for being laissez-faire before - I've been frantically keeping an eye out for advance showings ever since.
Anyhow, it was a strange movie. I couldn't really get a handle on Brandon's character. Sometimes he seemed kinda relatable, like his awkward disgust when the sister and the boss are kissing in the cab - we've all been there. Then other times he seemed really creepy. Also, with women: in the after-work bar scene, he came across as really smooth when he guessed the woman's eye colour correctly, but he was a really aggressive sleaze with that girl with her boyfriend. And were he and his sister supposed to have/have had a sexual relationship? His tackling of her when either he or she was naked seemed deliberate, like he probably got off on it.
The acting in this was top-notch, though. Michael Fassbender does great facial expressions and I also though Carey Mulligan was really good. The movie was basically a collection of scenes, but those were some very interesting, well-acted scenes.

After furiously debating whether or not it was too embarrassing to see this by myself, I bit the bullet and saw it yesterday (I was the only person in the theatre, which somewhat mitigated my mortification). I didn't think the movie itself was good at all; I think calling it a 'collection of scenes' is quite accurate. But Fassy was, I thought, amazing--he has a great 'pained' expression that, of course, got a lot of mileage in this movie.
I haven't seen Hunger, but I will say that based on this movie I find it disappointing that someone as talented as Fassy is so tied to the less talented McQueen--but perhaps Hunger is a much better movie.

Just came back from the movie. Here's my take on it. It's not a movie about sex at all. It's a movie about anxiety. Brandon masturbated to relieve his anxiety about situations/ people he couldn't control. His sister was a cutter, that's how she dealt with her fears. It's like when you drink too much, overeat, cut, smoke or whatever you do to deal with the sensation that being anxious brings. After you do the destructive behavior you feel ashamed of yourself for giving in to your behavior. Brandon could not relieve the anxiety his sister brought out in him. That's why he goes overboard at the end of the movie. It's like the usual 5 drinks don't work, so tonight I'll drink a fifth and all the wine and beer. Its the shame people feel about their addictions that this movie addresses. that's my take anyway.

I don't think McQueen is less talented than Michael, he is still a pretty green director, but I thought he did a fine job with both Hunger and Shame. In fact a lot of reviews for Shame have praised McQueen.
Back to Shame, it is one of those movies that stays with you for awhile (at least it did for me). I saw it way back in September and a film festival and I still have the random thought about it.
