Finally watched this last night, and I must say that Fassbender's performance was compelling. Usually ,if I start watching a movie after 10 pm, I almost always pause and finish it the next evening, but I stayed up to finish this one, and will probably re-watch.

I have a question about the scene with the girl and her boyfriend in the bar

So, at first I kind of got the impression that maybe she was a (possibly underaged) hooker hitting on Brandon, since that bar seemed seedy and to me she looked too young to be there. Also, she stood there and seemed not at all offended by a total stranger saying all this stuff to her. I figured that the boyfriend was supposed to be her pimp. But then in the next scene, Brandon is getting his ass kicked in the alley. Was the boyfriend just defending his girl's honor, or was it a transaction gone bad?

The girl in the bar was there with her boyfriend and Brandon was aggressively hitting on her even though her scary boyfriend was nearby. (She wasn't hitting on him, although she gets into it when he starts coming on to her.) When he starts talking to the boyfriend about all the stuff he wants to do to her, it's not even about getting sex anymore, it's purely self destruction. He knows he's likely to get his ass kicked for it, and he does.

Ok, thanks Ginger. I remember Brandon was already sitting at the bar, and I think she said "hey" to him first, so I wasn't sure if she was supposed to have had some other intention.

Right Brandon was sitting at the bar and she'd come over there to get the next round or something. Brandon starts hitting on her but she's kind of into it; then her boyfriend comes and Brandon tells HIM what he'd like to do to girlfriend. What got me about that scene was that when Brandon's talking to the boyfriend, girlfriend is just standing there like, "I wasn't offended at all."
