This is Ridley Scott's sort-of, kind-of prequel to Alien. I've been excited about his return to the sci-fi genre for a while, and now the first photos from the movie are officially out. And it looks pretty damn good to me. To quote the site: Also, the cast: The Fassbender (is he in all the movies these days?), Idris Elba, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce... yeah. It's out in June 2012 and I don't know how I'll be able to wait that long. I haven't been this excited about a movie for a long time.

I'm looking forward to this too, but the horrific Photoshop on The Fass in that first photo is scarier than any Alien.

I want to like it, I really do, and it's got some pedigree in the writing department (Lindeloff and the dude who wrote the upcoming "Darkest Hour") but since he left scifi THIRTY years ago, Scott's been a boringly-predictable, autopilot director. Cool stills. I hope this is as good as the talent involved COULD make it.

I am ridiculously excited for this movie. Alien is one of my all time favorite movies do my hopes are high for this one.
I am a Fassbender fan girl so I am looking forward to seeing him again on the big screen. I must admit though that the blond hair isn't really doing it for me.
My only gripe is that the movie is in 3D. I think it's such a blatant cash grab by the movie studios and as a rule I try to avoid seeing 3D movies in the theatre if I can. I think I'll be making an exception for this however.

LOL, that image of Fassbender is hilarious. It reminds me of my daughter's preschool group photo from last year: the photographer photoshopped "better" head-shots of some kids onto their group-photo bodies. The effect was a little... odd in places. I am a total Scott fangirl, and I have the exact same worries you have bstewart. I really liked Gladiator, I really liked the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven, and I loved Thelma and Louise. Some of his movies lately have been total duds, others have been ho-hum ok, and some have been alright (as in not embarrasing) but nothing special (Body of Lies and American Gangster for example). Still, I am hoping that a return to the sci-fi genre will reignite his genius. His best movies were Alien and Blade Runner (two of my all-time favourite movies - any genre, any era), but they were so influential, and so great that my expectations might be set way to high. I've decided to throw caution to the wind and be a squee-ing fan-girl again. Don't let me down Ridley!

Well, yeah, it's a little unfair to ask Paul McCartney to write another "Let It Be". I'll be seeing it, for sure. And, canuckcutie, I'll be specifically seeking out a non-3D showing. It looks murky enough in the stills without the added murk of 3D.

I'm just hoping it'll be his best movie since Blade Runner and Alien. Not better! See, I'm not asking that much, am I?

Well, considering the technology he has at his disposal, I think it's a fair ask. ;-)

Seriously, those shots are so MY HEAD IS PASTED ON YAY.
But, yeah, agreed with all the points on Scott becoming increasingly pedestrian. Don't fight the sci-fi, Ridley. Embrace it! You rule at it!

I had no idea what this was and didn't care; read Elba was in it and I'll be there.
