Well, I have zero sympathy for Ivy. As harsh as it may sound, the girl had choices. She chose to do all the things that led her to end up as the chorus for Marilyn. So now she had to low-ball Karen and try and psych her out for doing her part as understudy? Put that ring on her dressing table and spill the beans about her sleeping with Dev?
That is COLD.
I'm not saying that Karen shouldn't have ever known the truth, but that was so not the time. And she only did it so she could get the part. Kudos to Karen for digging deep and taking the bull by the horns. I think that Dev is truly sorry and I hope they're able to work things out.
Both Ivy and Ellis are creatures of opportunity and will do anything cut throat to get it. Ellis saying, "This isn't the last you'll hear of me" or whatever...HA! Suck it, Ellis. You could have killed Rebecca by slipping that peanut into her drink. I figured it was him all along and I'm glad he got fired.
So now we're being faced with Ivy's attempted suicide and Debra Messing being pregnant (which I'm sure is with Michael's baby!)? *snooze*

Katharine McPhee was fine in the season finale, but her performances seemed one-dimensional after seeing Megan Hilty blasted it out of the park all season.
I too sincerely hope that there's no "Julia's pregnant" storyline. In fact, I hope everything relating to Julia's personal life as currently written, including the Michael Swift affair, adoption, her kid's troubles, and her husband's teaching re-certification goes bye-bye. That entire segment of the show is a huge snoozer.

Unfortunately, I read that they are moving away from the musical bits and more into the drama of these characters off-screen. Personally, I find all of the Julia, Tom and Eileen scenes about their personal life to be painful.
I liked that Karen got her moment in the spotlight, even if I expect that Ivy ends up with the role once it hits Broadway next season.

There are few things that make me more uncomfortable than people reacting to something entirely mediocre as if it was the most brilliant thing evah1! I was cringing in horror during the last ten minutes as everyone was acting blown away by Katharine McPhee's unbearable blandness. I just wanted to reach through the tv and slap them all.

(there it is, on the 7th page)
The show is back, seemingly less train-wrecky as before, but still full of some bad storylines. The music, however, is fabulous. I would love to see this as an actual show.

I loved the music from the new show. I'm over the Bombshell music. I still think this show would be 100% improved if they eliminated all of the Tom, Julia and Eileen storylines outside of the show and focused more on Ivy, Karen and the dancers trying to make it in Broadway. And I am not really loving the Ivy feeling sorry for herself storyline. She brought all of this nonsense on to herself by sleeping with Karen's boyfriend and telling Karen about it right before Karen was supposed to go on as Marilyn.

I'd feel more sorry for Karen if she weren't such a terribly acted and written character.

I know this is a double post, but six weeks has elapsed since my last post. I hope that's OK. NBC moves "Smash" to Saturdays, which means it will likely not get renewed next season. There's a new character played by Broadway actor Jeremy Jordan. His composing talent is supposed to make up for treating people like crap and being whiny, entitled, and angry. He is worse that Ellis and Leo combined, people.

Yeah, Jeremy's character is horrible, which is too bad as he is in the only part of the show I find interesting. The new show is interesting. I am over Bombshell and its drama. And I've never really gotten the praise for Hilty. She is so mannered on the show that I don't enjoy her. On a side note, I still want Karen to end up with Derek.

I wish Kat McPhee had more charisma. Her voice is so beautiful, she should be a bigger star. I just adored the uptempo version of 'Never Give All the Heart' from this week's episode.
