Inside info Babycakes. She apparently mentioned to top brass at ABC that she knew fans would not be happy, and warned them to stay off twitter right after the finale, least they deal with the immediate fallout. I don't have any additional info.

I don't have any additional info. Holy crap! Thanks for the info. But again, I have to wonder, why not put out a better product? Why tell the top brass you're going to put out shitty material and to expect backlash? Plus social media is where they thrive. Half of their promotion is having the cast chat with fans via twitter during and after the show. They are one of the only shows that I can think of that continually flogs itself on social media. Tangentially, I guess this is Shonda's pattern--she gets distracted crafting a new show, and her other ones suffer. She's creating a new show with Viola Davis right now, I believe.

Did Shonda mean that fans wouldn't like the episode as a whole, or that they wouldn't like some of what happened in it, like the presidents son dying? Because there's. big difference. I can see making story choices fans might not like, such as killing a character, but I find it hard to believe a showrunner - even Shonda - would intentionally produce an all-round inferior episode.

I think Shonda believes she is making brave, bold choices that might not be exactly what fans expected and were hoping for, but will make for a more powerful story in the long run. That's probably what she's trying for, anyway. Whether she pulled it off is up to interpretation...

I took it to mean the fanbase wouldn't get getting what the wanted. I learned long ago there are no ugly step-children in show business (meaning no one believes they're making crap). When I heard the news my first response was, "Then why write this sh*t if you don't want to upset the fans?", followed by, "oh, maybe Jake and Olivia get married". I honestly don't know how much Keri's pregnancy hampered storytelling, but it seemed to really go off the rails this year. It's just way too soapy for me now, but I actually have a couple of friends who LOVE it.
Also, Shondra yields SO much power at ABC. Greys, Scandal and the new show w/ Viola. She's made the network a lot of money over the years. At this point she could probably do something short of killing kittens on air and ABC would be okay with it.

I think the material, and not the actors, are overall to blame. Huck was fine when he stayed in his lane as a 12-stepping killer. Joe Morton was originally scary to me...until his 40th monologue shouted at Liv. The initial reveal of Mama Pope was striking but she needed her arc to end on that plane. I'm also annoyed they killed off Gerry, the only Grant kid I liked. (What happened to the baby? Did it go upstairs & never come back?)
I just got around to watching this & I woke up still annoyed.

I figured due to all his real life drama, he'd either be written out or leave the show: Columbus Short Exit ScandalIf the show is renewed, I think we all know what happens to Harrison. C-ya! We won't miss ya.

It felt like Shonda was holding back on involving Harrison in anything too important the whole season, hedging her bets in case Columbus Short had to be written out. So that can be the thing that brings Olivia back, if Harrison disappeared/died.

"If the show is renewed"? Why wouldn't it be? It's a huge hit and gets oodles of publicity.
On TWOP, a number of people have made noise about the show ending and that Olivia going off into the figurative sunset with Jake was like a series finale. I don't get it, regardless of fan response to various plot lines, its still popular; why would the series end? What am I missing?

Mugsy, I think it's maybe some projection from people who think it's gone so downhill. From the way my friends talk about it though? It'll be renewed.
