Am I the only one that finds Shonda to be way too smug in her answers?
You've been screwing with the viewers, Ms. Rhimes. Giving us shitty writing and unbelievable results, not to mention Huck and Quinn. Yet, you think that you have the right to be smug? Ugh.
I really hope this season turns around from the disaster that was season 3.

She was smug and season 3 was a disaster. Actually, I've hated every season since season 1 but killing the president's kid was just a bridge too far for me and I am done. Also, Quinn was my favorite character in season 1 and they just destroyed her this season. She's gross now. 3 seasons is about as far as I've made it into any of Shonda's series though.
I am hoping her series with Viola Davis gives us a great season 1 at least and I hope there isn't a major plot point revolving around infidelity but that seems impossible as she is obsessed with storylines that relate to that.

I had to take a break from Shonda interviews during the Grey's Anatomy heyday. I really admire what she's done to be a successful TV writer who celebrates diversity, but tend not to be so impressed with her long-term storytelling/characterizations.

I will keep up with Scandal through this thread and online recaps, but I'm done watching the show. Maybe it will improve, but I'm not optimistic. The Huck/Quinn storyline needs to die and take Olitz along with it before I'll watch again.
Definitely giving Viola's show a try. Wish it had a shorter title!

I absolutely loved Season one too - it was so much fun. Season two was still good TV, and then came the shit storm of Season three a.k.a. Ripping off Alias Badly. This is the first of Shonda's shows that I've liked enough to watch more than a few episodes so I'm disappointed. I'm not bothering to read her interview. Hopefully, Huck and Quinn will be gone along with the Spying story line. That would bring me back to enjoying a show that I sort of just watch now out of habit.

On what planet is the relationship between Olivia and Jake fun or happy? Olivia doesn't love a man unless he makes her contort her face in disgust on a regular basis. Smiling and laughing? That's for losers!
Sounds like she's ignoring the fans who want the case-of-the-week back and is doubling down on the melodramatic bullshit. I already know Abby's backstory. She was in an abusive relationship, Olivia helped her escape it, and she's now in a love with a (for now) good man. End of story. No need to elaborate. Nobody cares.

Shonda Rhimes' shows seem to get messy in the third season. Happened with "Grey's Anatomy" and with "Scandal." I haven't watched "Private Practice." Was it the case there, too?

If it was anything like Lisa Kudrow's arc, meh cuz who didn't have that one figured out the first 5 minutes. She really needs to go back to case of the week. Stringing along a dysfunctional, long term affair is not her strength oh especially since House of Cards makes Scandal look like a telenovela.
