Did y'all see the premiere? I fucking loved it, thought everyone brought their A-game. Joe Morton was the ep's MVP. The theatricality was the right balance for the man that shaped Olivia Pope. My only gripe about Scandal is that following my The Vampire Diaries viewing it makes TVD cast's acting look like amateur hour. Everybody on Scandal went full throttle; Cyrus at his most Cyrusy, Mellie scratching & clawing (and ever-failing) her way to HBIC status, Olivia reserving her breakdown until after she's strategized a brilliant plan, Fitz running head first into the controversy only to reveal a diabolical trump card. It worked. It all worked & the ratings were better than ever. Imagine that, a show with a black female show runner, a black female lead, a prominent gay couple, other lead characters of color, etc. is doing really well in the ratings! Network execs please take note.

I agree with almost everything mementomori, except for the episode MVP, I thought Mellie knocked all her scenes out of the stratosphere. Olivia was Olivia, and Fitz was Fitz. I was surprised at how marginalized and unnecessary the Gladiators felt. I didn't miss them at all. I'm not interested in them bringing back Scott Foley's character, or finding out what Fitz did in the Navy. I just want more White House shenanigans. I love Cyrus and the never ending scandals that drive him to heart arrhythmias.

I wish they would give Mellie something more to do than just wring her hands over her cheating husband and scheme how to keep her high profile marriage together. Like she said in the episode, she has a law degree! I think the character has so much potential but she is trapped in a stereotype.
Didn't miss the gladiators except Huck. I love Huck.

The thing about leaking the other staffer's name as the mistress to take the blame off Olivia is, who's to say Fitz hasn't cheated on Mellie with more than one woman? They have the video of him leaving Liv's apartment building. Presidents far less attractive than Fitz have managed to snag multiple mistresses, so why not a POTUS who is rather fit? I mean, in this universe, JFK was really president and a shameless manwhore while in office, right? Wouldn't the first thing that came to mind for people be that Fitz was seeing both women, rather than the media got it wrong about Olivia?

"He just mad cause Whitley left him at the altar" YES!
I love it. It's a little low-budget with the way the cartoons move, but the entire theme is spot on!

The low-budgetness is part of Cartoon Scandal's charm. I especially loved baby Teddy all swaddled in the manger and Mellie drunkenly trying to seduce Fitz at Hogwarts.

As I watched more of them, I did see the deeper amusement with the cartoon's charm. Too bad he couldn't get Huck to strangle Olivia, but having to sing about the fact he couldn't do it made it funnier!
