I really enjoyed it. Though I thought the back injury was a bit of a cheap joke at the heavy woman's expense.
I saw that Lilo's part (pretty much a cokewhore with minimal lines- how did she screw that up?) went to Riley Keough.
I agree that Cody Horn was a bit young-looking for the role. I was also distracted by her resemblence to Ali Larter

This! I always thought he had a good body, but it all never really fit together for me until this. Like someone said, he seemed really charismatic. I almost imagine this is how he is in real life - I can see him driving a truck, dressing like his character, speaking like his character. And that's the kind of guy I tend to like, so now I totally see it.

I liked the movie, too. I didn't have high expectations, so it was better than I thought. I know the women who were sitting in front of me wanted more stripping, though. LOL

According to Deadline Hollywood, MM is over performing and will pull in between $38- $40 million this weekend. Male bloggers are baffled by the film's success. Dudes, ladies have sexual impulses too. We will go to movies just watch half naked guys. Hollywood take note!

From what I understand, Channing Tatum helped develop the film and is a co-producer. Channing is much of an actor but maybe he might have some film producer instincts. Maybe he needs to consider going behind the scenes.

Haven't seen the movie but I want to. But I work with kids and I have images of them seeing me leave MM. So, I might have to wait until this comes out on DVD.

I read that Tatum based the movie on his own pre-fame experiences as a male stripper, so it probably wasn't a big stretch to develop. Then again, who knew 10 years ago that Mark Wahlberg would become such a successful producer? I believe he loosely based "Entourage" on his own early Hollywood experiences, but now he's expanded into good drama like "Boardwalk Empire".

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here been to one of these shows? I went to this sort of back-alley male strip "club" on Bourbon Street (it was an outdoor courtyard with a stage and tables-weird) years ago, but it was kind of low-key and not all scream-y.

Male movie experts are always baffled when a movie that targets women (or minorities) is a breakout hit, but with Magic Mike, I don't think it's just that men are surprised that women get horny, too. It's just that an R-rated movie about female strippers probably wouldn't do nearly as well. I've seen plenty of jokes from men about this being a hit because of women not knowing that porn is free on the internet. IMO men and women in general consume their porn differently so it's not always easy for one side to wrap their heads around how the other thinks.

I haven't seen this movie but I saw the line-up for it when I was on my way to see another film. The line up of teenage girls to see "Magic Mike" was hilariously long. You would have thought it was a Harry Potter opening.

I went with a friend of mine tonight and saw it. She loved it, and I--hmmm. I liked Channing Tatum in the role, LOVED Matthew McConoughy, but I just felt like...there was nothing there. I was entertained, but I didn't get the drive behind Mike changing, or the connection between him and the sister.

Spoiler: I think Mike realized that Dallas had been stringing him along all this time about offering him equity when The Kid mentioned he had been told the same thing.

I agree with satellite--I think it was a slow creep of realizations: he was getting screwed by Dallas, was lied to by Olivia Munn's character, was being increasingly drawn into other people's shenanigans, and also that no matter how hard he worked, something was going to happen to knock him back.

I liked Cody Horn's character at the beginning, but I kept waiting to get more information, and I couldn't tell if Cody Horn is blank or was getting direction for more blank.
