Tyler Perry is almost certainly one of the detectives, although maybe not. There was also a tough lady detective and a male detective; I'd guess NPH is one of the motorcourt grifters.

I'm on board with Rosamund Pike, but I am just not feeling Ben Affleck. When I was reading the book, I pictured Chris Evans, an "All-American" type of guy who could get away with anything because he was handsome and charming, but also kind of dim. I can't picture BA as Nick. Also, I pictured Mary Lynn Rajskub as his sister Margo and Melissa McCarthy as the female detective, Jesse Williams as Amy's ex-boyfriend, and James Cromwell and Blythe Danner as her parents. I don't know who they are going to have NPH and Tyler Perry (!?!?!) playing. I like your casting choices. Agreed about Ben Affleck. I don't think he looks right and think he is just so so as an actor. I am not that familiar with Rosamund Pike but she looks the part I guess. I hope she can do a believable American accent. Maybe NPH as Amy's creepy ex? Can Tyler Perry act?

I cannot stand Tyler Perry. I just can't take him seriously as an actor. I thought he was godawful in Alex Cross. Not believable as a tough cop IMO.
Nick was younger than Amy in the book. I always thought someone along the lines of Jake Gyllenhaal for Nick. I don't mind Rosamund but I'm having a hard time with Affleck.

Is it bad that I'm happy that the movie is being made an hour from me?

I finally read this while on holiday last week and really enjoyed it. Yes, it's basically a story about very unlikable people being horrible but I liked how tense it was. I was sort of spoiled so I knew Amy was still alive but didn't know how she had done it and that the diary was fake. The change of tone in her confessional was a kick to the guts!
As for the film adapation: Ryan Philippe was born to play Nick IMHO but with Reese producing I guess he was out of the running from the start ;-) I'm fine with Ben, he's bland enough to believably play stupid Nick who gets outsmarted all.the.time. Ryan would be especially great if for the film they managed to re-create the book's first part where you're not sure if he's done it or not. I hope whoever casts this movie doesn't forget that Nick's sister is his twin so they won't cast, you know, Kat Dennings. Who might be a not too bad choice for Andie but I also liked another suggestion upthread: Emilia Clarke. Would love to see NPH play Desi.

Apparently NPH is playing Desi and Tyler Perry is playing Nick's lawyer. Allegedly Fincher was so impressed with Perry in Alex Cross that he chased Perry down for the role. What can I say, Fincher must have shitty taste in movies.
Apparently Patrick Fugit from Almost Famous and Kim Dickens from Treme will play the detectives. An actress named Carrie Coon who is apparently best known for broadway work is playing Go.

I don't remember the detectives at all. I do like Kim Dickens though. I think NPH is an interesting choice for Desi. I cannot wrap my head around the idea that Fincher was a fan of Perry in Alex Cross. The casting for this is weird. I was kind of hoping that Affleck's Batman duties force him to drop out of this and they could recast.

I think that's a very Nick-like quality.

Tyler Perry??? Really? I thought Nick's lawyer was a White man who was married to a Black Barbara Walters/Oprah type talk show host. It's been over a year since I've read Gone Girl and I could be wrong. Am I wrong?

I don't remember the detectives at all./quote] Hee! I can't remember Desi at all. The continued casting conversations about the book have upgraded my post-read review from "ehhh" to "hmmm." The lingering has made me revisit the story a couple times.
