Gone Girl movie is going to have a completely different 3rd act. Interesting. I am not sure how I feel about this. I know a lot of people hated the ending but I thought it was fitting for the story. I am concerned that they will change it to either make it happier or more action packed. But Flynn herself is rewriting it so maybe it will be okay? Also I really hate that photo. I'm worried about that too - I can't imagine how she's going to change it up without changing the whole story arc. I'm not sure how the book as a whole will transfer to the screen though, so we'll see if she's successful. I also don't get how that photo relates to the book, it doesn't really make sense. On another note, I saw Jack Reacher the other night and wasn't too impressed with Rosamond Pike - hopefully she does a better job with better material.

I just finished reading Gone Girl, so I finally could enter this thread. Agree with the iffy feeling about the ending - it matches the book's tone, but was unsatisfying somewhat. I also rooted for Amy during some of it, and for Nick. They're both horrible.
Althought I will never forgive Affleck for Argo, I have no problem with him as Nick. Much is made of his chin cleft, which Affleck has. I also pictured Nick as dark haired, so I was surprised by the blond guys suggested here.
For some reason, I pictured Mitt Romney and his wife as Amy's parents, I guess because they seem to have that shallow plastic aura about them.
Funny that Tyler Perry is Tanner, whom I also assumed was white (because of Nick's surprise at seeing his black wife, I guess). It doesn't really matter. I did picture Boney, the female detective, as black though; I thought of Octavia Spencer. Most of those who were cast are unfamiliar to me. I really like the idea of NPH as Desi.

The Entertainment Weekly cover was David Fincher's idea. It's an homage to Annie Leibovitz's famous photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. I think it's brilliant.

First trailer for Gone Girl. I have to admit, as someone who is not really a fan of Ben Affleck or David Fincher it does look good. Mind you its mostly a musical montage and that song does a lot of the heavy lifting. But still I am now pretty optimistic.

I can't view the trailer on any websites. I wonder why they took it down.

Hmm, it still works for me in that link. Try here. It is an iTunes trailer so you do need quicktime. I think it was an exclusive to iTunes which is probably why the YouTube versions disappeared.

I can't imagine Flynn will give it a happy ending (I will be really pissed if she does), but I bet she'll change it into something a little more...satisfactory (by Hollywood standards).

I just finished Gone Girl and very much enjoyed it. It was precisely the kind of book I needed right now. Fast paced and different. I will check out her other books.
I kinda liked Amy. I don't know what that says about me. I'm not saying I'd ever want to cross paths with her, but she sure was a piece of work. However...the whole thing reminded me of Scott Peterson, and that was creepy. I'd get little flashes of that story, and feel almost bad about being entertained by such a story.

I read an interview with Flynn where she said the talk of the ending being changed was overblown. I honestly couldn't have seen her radically changing it. I must admit I liked the fact that neither character really got their happy ending.

I love Rosamund Pike as Amy. So glad it's not Reese W, and although Charlize would be good, it's almost too obvious. She's just so crazy beautiful, it's distracting. But Pike is good and she's not as well known. I definitely think she has the cool girl quality. I also have no problem with Affleck. It's on the nose like the casting of Tom Cruise as the shallow sports agent in Jerry Maguire, but it might just work. Ben is the handsome, shallow-seeming guy, so I think it could work really well. Hopefully he'll be a bit more animated than Argo.
What I loved about the book is the way class shaded their marriage (like moving to the Midwest suburbs) and how that rankled New Yorker Amy. Very perceptive of Flynn. And she got the disintegration of marriage exactly right.
