I respect Kanye even though I'm annoyed by his pompus ass. When he challenged homophobia in hip-hop I had to give him props. That was cool. I'm glad that a conscientious rapper such as himself has a high profile. He may be arrogant, but I'll count my blessings.

Between Kanye's anti-homophobia comments, 50 Cent raggin' on Nelly's bling habits, and Eminem in rehab, it's been an awesome month for rap. The music industry needs to do some housecleaning. Wha'?! Where have I been? Props to Kanye. Who would have guessed he was a decent human being? And that under his over-inflated ego and self-absorption he was hiding a lot of soul. Fiddy denounced bling? What exactly did he say? And Em is in rehab??? He actually checked himself in rehab? :faints in disbelief and comes to: When? And how did I miss this? rushing to Fiddy and Em threads

I heardthe "gold digger" song on the radio today, cracked me up. 'Supposed to use your money to buy Tyco,Instead she out gettin Lipo, shouldda been insured by Geico' Damn that song was enjoyable. I agree he is a bit of a pompus jerk at times but i like how he made the point about the diamond smuggling thing in his first single.

I like him but he is overrated. And sometimes his flow sounds wack. This probably will not prevent me from downloading his new CD.

Love him. Like his music, and I am someone who hates today's rap music. I probably like him because he raps about other things besides Cristal, hos, and how much money he has. I always thought he was cool and these comments make him even cooler. Word to the nth. I'm proud that he hails from my hometown. I have never been a fan of commercial hip hop either and I give him props for changing the face of it. Thanks to Kanye's style and catchy lyrics I am going to purchase my first hip hop CD. I love Golddiggers and find myself punching radio station buttons to hear it over and over again. I also give him mad props for making the cover of Time.

I would prefer it if Kanye stuck to producing.
He is so overrated in his own ventures. He doesn't have flow. On some of his songs it is painful and boring to hear him rhyming.
But he is a stellar producer. Paired with artists like Talib Kweli and Common he has made some really great albums with some solid beats.
As for conscious rappers there are plenty were where around before the Year Of Kanye and are still around. Talib and Common for example who Kanye has produced for. And Mr Mighty Mos Def!! I love him so much it's crazy.
Support those artists too. You'll find some of their albums are better Kanye's. Preacher I would highly recommend "Be" by Common as probably the best hiphop album released so far this year. Kanye produced it.
I think of Kanye like hiphop's Babyface circa the early 90's. Produces great albums for others but his individual efforts lack something.
Anyway glad that you can see hiphop has some value and you've been inspired enough to learn something about it.

I like that he wears his ambition on his sleeve. Even if -- or maybe because -- it makes him look like a whiny crybaby when he pouts about not getting a "Best New Artist" award. Is he as talented as he thinks he is in his own mind? Probably not. (I don't think there's that much "talent" in the entire pool of humanity.) But something about his earnestness is refreshing. Plus, I paid retail for "College Dropout." And buyer's remorse hasn't hit me yet.
