I would prefer it if Kanye stuck to producing. But he is a stellar producer. Paired with artists like Talib Kweli and Common he has made some really great albums with some solid beats. Support those artists too. You'll find some of their albums are better Kanye's. Preacher I would highly recommend "Be" by Common as probably the best hiphop album released so far this year. Kanye produced it. Anyway glad that you can see hiphop has some value and you've been inspired enough to learn something about it. Common hails from my home town as well, so he nor his music is foreign to me. I was referring to commercial hiphop in terms of my hatred and vow never to purchase. (Leave me alone I'm over 33! ;D). While I agree Kanye is a far better producer than rapper, as far as mainstream goes, because he isn't some thugged out ignant idiot and doesn't rant and rave like a lunatic Late Registration will indeed be the first commercial hip hop CD I will purchase.

Is "Golddiggers" that one with Jamie Foxx doing his Ray Charles impression? God, I hate that song for that little bit alone. (I'd rip on Foxx for coasting on doing Charles, but that's for another thread...but I can't resist...imitation is NOT quality, jerk)

Good for you. But if I were you (which I'm not) I'd buy something else.
Kanye had a couple good songs but generally he's overrated and he sucks.

Huh. I did not know that that was Jamie Foxx on "Gold Diggers." Interesting. Too bad they didn't use one of the old-school covers of the song though, 'cause from what I understand it's a blues standard. Or they could have used a current blues artist in order to give a shout out to someone who deserves more exposure.

In the video Jamie is doing the whole Ray shades and head bobbling as well. It detracts a bit from the slight enjoyment i get at Kayne's ability to snark at the women who go after rich men.

How is that even new. Outkast's "Roses" from 2003/4 is about exactly the same thing. And the song is a lot better. And the rhyme, the concept....and the level of snark. Kanye. Overrated and not as original as he's given credit for.

What point? Are you referring to the Diamonds are Forever song, because I didn't get the message.

Thanks Flipper I am gonna definitely take that into consideration, since overrated is the order of this generation of "entertainers". Maybe I'll just download it first.

What point? Are you referring to the Diamonds are Forever song, because I didn't get the message. Same here. Two things I hate: 1. At the beginning of the video, there's a quote and it's from...himself! Talk about self-aggrandizing. 2. By the time I start catching words to the song, the words are about people saying he's a one-hit wonder, but he's back now. Dude, if you got a message, that's fine. Don't start talking about yourself.

Thanks Flipper I am gonna definitely take that into consideration, since overrated is the order of this generation of "entertainers". Maybe I'll just download it first. Don't get me wrong or misinterpret or anything. There are plenty of hiphop aritists who put out albums worth the money. Download the Kanye - go out and buy Common. Or better yet buy Saul Williams. It's not a standard hiphop album. It's really eclectic and the lyrics are actually meaningful. Not Kanye's pseudo-meaningful "well I deserve props simply for not talking about Crystal". Kanye's boring and I don't think he has much to say. At least he's harmless enough and seems inoffensive. But that doesn't make him that talented or good. For every new message Kanye's had another hiphop artist has already highlighted the issue before him. He tries to get props now for what people were noticed for highlighting as issues before him. The war diamonds from Sierra Leone issue was tackled by a young Ms Dynamite back in 2001 on her debut album. Another inspirational and informative album that I would recommend over Kanye. She's from the UK so her album has a different flava - reggae dub like. So forget Kanye - buy Ms Dynamite. And as I said - if you want a song mocking goldiggers OutKast's "Roses" did it better only a year ago. My point? Just buy anything besides Kanye. He's a hack and that makes him wack. IIRC back when Ms Dynamite was winning all the awards for her album whenever she got to the podium she'd say her thanks and then she would use the opportunity to mention African diamonds or one of the issues she cared about. Get Kanye to a podium and what? He's crowing about how great he thinks he is and actually complaining and getting angry and bent of shape about not winning "Best Newcomer" like a sore loser. What an asshat! He's so full of himself. I can't take him seriously.
