I love Peter, he does have to be the sweetest douchey-bro ever. I don't ship him and Mindy, but I do think they make an awesome team as friends. I mean, if she hooked up with him, she would have been with almost every guy in the building except Morgan (poor Morgan).
I hated how they randomly had Betsy announce that she's in love with Danny (why?) and then no one even acknowledged it anyway, like she wasn't even a person. It reminded me of how they had the secretary they ended up getting rid of, I don't remember her name, fall in love with Danny and then it was never spoken of again. It's like they try to come up with storylines for the peripheral characters but then they just abandon them. Personally I think they shouldn't bother anyway and just stick to the docs and Morgan.

If they get rid of Betsy, there won't be any female characters left on the show! Maybe they could try to write her character a little better? Maybe give her a brain and a tiny bit of personality, as if she's a human being too?
Why does the only woman left on the show besides Mindy have to be an insignificant, frumpy, socially-inept, asexual loser? To make Mindy look better? To keep every single male character's attentions 100% focused on Mindy at all times?
This show is really starting to frustrate me.

Yeah, I mean, I don't necessarily want them to get rid of Betsy, I just want them to either (as my grandma would have said) shit or get off the pot when it comes to developing her character. I wasn't really thinking of it in terms of a gender thing because honestly I never notice that when I watch the show... maybe that's bad. I wouldn't be opposed to them adding another female doctor to the practice or giving Mindy a female friend that doesn't seem forced and pointless like Anna Camp's character did.

This show is making me roll my eyes. I used to really enjoy it, but now I'm pretty "meh" about it. An endless stream of white dudes for Mindy, while she's running around championing larger women of color. Not that any other women in the show get any time/plot lines and are barely SEEN. Fuck off, Mindy. (But I do love Danny, so he gets a pass.)

Betsy is not the only other female character. There is also Tamara and Beverly. Granted they also don't get many stories but they are there as much as Betsy. Though I do find Tamara and her boyfriend Ray Ron freaking hysterical.

Tamara is a pretty embarrassing, occasionally funny but mostly horrifying stereotype (IMO), and I don't really care for Beverly at all. I liked the secretary they got rid of more than I do Betsy, Tamara, or Beverly. Maybe Mindy could have a female nurse anesthetist or something to buddy up with. While I do enjoy this show immensely, and love Mindy, I agree with the sentiment that the female characters (when they exist) are done all wrong on this show.

It got me a little riled when Mindy Kaling was asked why there are no other women doctors or doctors of color on the show: So she's made good for herself and therefore everything else can be offensive and that's ok.
It took me forever to come up with who the "four series regulars" are who are women...Betsy, Beverly, Tamara...Maybe she's counting Anna Camp, who I don't think has even appeared on an episode since 2013? Betsy, Beverly, and Tamara are all problematic to me, and they only appear on episodes sporadically and then hardly get any air time.

I think Mindy is 100% right.
White guys don't ever have to answer the diversity question. Chuck Lorre has 4 sitcoms currently on the air. You know how many minorities in all casts combined? Two. No one ever asks him why. No one ever asked this of the creators of HIMYM, Cougar Town, Suburgatory, or any other show. In fact, nearly all sitcoms I can think of are all white except maybe the best friend character. Only Michael Shur and Dan Harmon make a point of multiracial casts. So why is Mindy the only one to get shit for it?
Mindy is a show runner and lead despite being a woman of color with an average body. Do you know how rare that is? How good she had to be to get that? And now she has to spend time that could be used on making her show funny and creative and successful into making it representative. And even when she does, everyone claims the other nonwhite character is racist anyway. Why are the so-called progressives putting demands on her that they never do on the white guys? As for not getting airtime, only Mindy, Danny, and Morgan ever do. Jeremy is just as shunted off to the side as Betsy and Tamra.

The thing is, there are a lot of shows I don't watch. I'd stab myself in the eyeballs before I watch Cougartown or Two and a Half Men. I'm pretty sure that if I ever did watch TaaHM I'd find every minute of it sexist and offensive.
I would really enjoy The Mindy Project but for this one big problem with it, and I think the argument that "other shows are worse" is complete bullshit.
And I'm not asking that Mindy's show be a bastion of diversity and feminism. All I want is a little balance between the genders so the focus isn't all white men, and female/minority characters who aren't almost completely dehumanized.
