The first full length trailer is out. They're laying on the Dark Knight effect really thick. Henry Cavill has massive boots to fill. I know almost no one that thinks highly of or hardly even remembers the Brandon Routh led, previous reboot. I don't buy Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and I haven't seen one single frame of her acting. They didn't even bother to dye her hair. Sorry, I'm a purist about such things. I'm not optimistic about this. It'll probably bring it effects wise, and even merit a sequel, but Christopher Reeve was and always be the one true Superman. I miss him so much. Sorry to be such a downer, but Superman was my first superhero love. I have really high standards when it comes to this kind of stuff.

He grew up on "Smallville", why not Tom Welling?

Would Tom Welling really want to do this after ten (long) years playing him on TV? I think there would be too much baggage anyway with him in the role so better to start off with another actor.
Henry Cavill looks like Superman should but based on his rather inauspicious film career so far, he needs to be careful to avoid becoming the next Brandon Routh, last seen as a 4th billed character on a poorly reviewed and now cancelled CBS sitcom.

See I'm not a Superman fan and I avoided the Routh/Bosworth version like the plague but this might be worth checking out. They are definitely ripping off the gritty Batman tone here.

He grew up on "Smallville", why not Tom Welling? I watched about 4 season of SV, and thought Tom had the look, and all his pouty pink-lipped glory, wowzers, but he didn't/doesn't have the gravitas to pull off an adult Superman, IMO. He could have played teen/younger Clark, while Joe Manganiello could play the adult, fully realized Superman. Not saying they had the acting chops, just the look I imagined. I can't think of anyone that would have satisfied what I was looking for. The complete package, so to speak. I haven't seen any of Henry Cavill's work, so this is going to be interesting.

The trailer already looks better than Routh's entire movie, IMO. Of course, I'll always think Reeve was the best Superman (I remember them screening the original via projector and screen as a treat in my grammar school--ah, the good ol' days!), but I seem to be a slave to all these remakes with my superhero favorites. I'll definitely see it, if only to confirm the Routh one was the worst!
Did I catch Russell Crowe in a cameo? Interesting, as the trailer music seems ripped straight from Gladiator. I like Cavill--he easily has more range than BR--and I like Adams and Costner, so I'll check it out. Maybe just a matinee though!

Russell Crow is playing Jor-El....me no likey. But it keeps with the tradition of egomanical hams (Brando) playing the part of Superman's dad. I can't even remember who it was in the last reboot.

That trailer was boring. Henry Cavill is very pretty. But he's an incredibly flat and limited actor (not unlike Brandon Routh). I suspect he will be going for "blank" or "catatonic" through most of this movie.
I don't know. Christopher Reeves's Superman had a type of whimsy, charm, and cheesiness that can only live in the '80s. I think studios are going to continue to struggle to find a way to bring Superman into a new, modern tone. This will probably be better than the last reboot, but the last movie was AWFUL.

Didn't they just use clips of Brando in Superman Lifts Things Returns? What a crashing bore of a movie.

I liked it, but after Superman Returns anything will be better.
