OK, I'm glad I'm not the only one not wowed by this. People applauded at the end during my viewing and I felt really confused. I fell asleep during this. Yes, I've had sleep issues all week & probably shouldn't have rushed to an early show, but how could I refuse the supercheap $10.50 matinee? There was a lot I just didn't GET in this movie. The thing about the babies seemed very Matrix-y. I actually think most of the technology was strange, not explained well, and unnecessary. Too much of it was filmed in the dark. When people told me it was a dark movie, I didn't realize they meant LITERALLY dark. I'm pretty sure that's what sunk me into dreamland. The final showdown was also way too intense for me. A New Yorker watching a New York-style city be destroyed, complete with towers collapsing, was too much realness for me. It seemed like carnage for carnage's sake. We GET it, they're strong enough to break through brick. Great, he got the bad guy, but Metropolis no longer exists, so that sucks. And the whole plan to make Earth like Krypton...to me made ZERO sense. They're doing what with the who now? And what does the gravity have to do with the air they need to breathe? I was just so confused, and annoyed. On the plus side, I think Cavill, Lane & Costner were all awesome in their roles. I enjoyed the flashbacks, the little Smallville touches... I actually had no issue with any acting--Merloni, Fishburne...Shannon is at his best as a villain. But ultimately there were too many stretches of the imagination needed to truly enjoy this. I'd see it again, only if someone else paid or it makes it to HBO.

I'm seeing this tomorrow. Can't wait. I've avoided spoilers and most reviews because I really like Henry and want to see him succeed. Plus I cried during the trailer. The music gets to me.

Henry Cavill did a really good job as Superman, imo. Easy on the eyes, expressive (unlike Brandon Routh). Plus, I really appreciate the insane workouts he endured to get in shape to wear that suit (it totally shows). :-)

It is has been a long time since I have liked Russell Crowe, but I liked him in this movie. He is at that point in his career that a strong supporting character suits him. I also liked the actor that played Zod, the movie in general and those talking floating teardrop shaped things.

I really enjoyed it! But I'm not attached to the Christopher Reeves Superman films so perhaps that allowed me to enjoy it. In my group I noticed the ones attached to CR films had trouble enjoying while the ones like me had no problems. Not saying the film doesn't have problems (the fight scenes could have been trimmed down for example) but I do think nostalgia can make you resist change as well.

I'm not attached to the Reeves movies so I enjoyed it more than my friends that are, they hated it. I wouldn't say I loved it but I definitely enjoyed it. The version of Superman I'm most familiar with is Dean Cain and that show, and I'm not really attached to that one much either.

Finally saw this, and discovered that Superdickery had kind of ruined it... I actually enjoyed a lot of individual bits of this movie, but found the whole to be borderline goofy. I like that they delved into Superman's origins and in theory the identity crisis was an interesting character arc. In actual practice there were way too many flashbacks to the farm. I like a good angsty superhero, but this got ridiculous. Lois Lane was handled incredibly well, her strengths felt true to her character. I also liked a lot of the supporting actors they cast - it was great to see Christopher Meloni and Harry Lennix in key roles, and Michael Shannon was excellent. But good as they were, Russell Crowe was hands-down the best part of the movie to me. He really effortlessly stole every scene he was in.

Crowe has won an Oscar, made his money. I wonder if it is almost a relief to him to play these supporting roles, he doesn't have the pressure of trying to "carry" the movie.

He really effortlessly stole every scene he was in. He did that for Les Miserable, imo. This is doing the complete opposite of ruining it for me and kinda makes me want to see it again. Well, this and seeing "young itinerant worker" Clark/Kal-El [/shallow].
