Mr. Ladybug noticed that Oliver North got a "story by" credit on last night's ed! Anyone else catch that? I missed that, but the NY Times has an article about it. The short version is that he gave them so much info when they consulted him about the contras that they gave him a story credit.

They barely react to Paige skipping school and going to another town for the day, they decide Henry breaking into a neighbors house is something they can put off dealing with (and then seemingly let him off the hook cause he cried), but Paige donating her savings is what gets them riled up (I get being mad she gave her money away without asking, but thats no where near as dangerous as getting on Greyhound by herself)? And even then Philip politely asks "PLEASE don't roll your eyes at me". To me the parent storyline is poorly written.
Philip's storyline is drawing me in. He does seem to be losing it.

I think Philip reacted very strongly to Paige's lying about skipping school. It's the lying that offends him the most, while Elizabeth is really bothered by how spoiled and ungrateful they seem. I think the parenting storyline is fascinating: how do you raise children to be honest and law-abiding people when secretly you aren't either of those things? One of these days it will blow up in their faces.

The short version is that he gave them so much info when they consulted him about the contras that they gave him a story credit. And he thinks that the show is a showcase for the good that Reagan did in fighting the evil empire. That is an interesting interpretation. I pvr'd last night's episode and accidentally saw the scene with Philip and the pastor first. I honestly thought the pastor was a target related to the spy stuff. I thought for sure Philip was going to kill him.

Double posting because I can't believe that the season is over already. Great finale, I like the conflict they have set up for season 3. Elizabeth and Philip have for the most part getting along lately, they are going to go to war over Paige next season. The whole situation with Jared was tragic but I have to admit I laughed a little at how long his deathbed confession dragged on. In the time it took for him to explain why he killed his parents and his sister Philip and Elizabeth could have taken him to the hospital and gotten him a blood transfusion. I keep waiting for something terrible to happen to Martha. In Stan's dream Martha was stealing files. He is going to put it together in real life eventually. And she has a gun now, something has to happen.

I was thinking the exact same thing through that whole scene. Martha's theft was so blatant in the dream, and the gun. I don't see Martha's story ending well. Although I didn't care much for her at first she's grown on me and even if the worst that happens to her is a broken heart I'll still feel bad. I hope they don't just leave Nina's story as "gone away, never seen again", but I can see the silent sad parting of Oleg and Nina as being all there is to that. I have soft spots for Arkady, Nina, and Oleg, even more than I do for Phillip and Elizabeth. Damn you show, they're the enemy!

The writers have confirmed Nina will be back next season. Thank god, because her character adds so much to the show.
I wasn't a fan of how they handled the Jared story, especially the implausibility of Jared getting away with the murder and the silly 4-minute bleed-out.

The end of the Larick storyline was just so anti-climactic. I was expecting a long, tense stand-off but noooo, it was over in seconds. Bah. What a waste of Lee Tergeson.

I didn't like the finale, and am not looking forward to a child spy storyline next year. It is just too implausible, the risk of a kid telling someone that their parents are KGB agents is just too great IMHO. Why risk outing established illegals on the idea that emotional, hormonal, American raised teenagers will respond positively to spying against their own motherland? Yeah. No. Don't like that the kid killed his family, either. There could have been some good tension in P&E wondering who knew about them, and maybe the FBI not being as obtuse as they appear. I hope the show has not jumped the shark, because it has been so darn good! I was sooo tense about Stan, I could not picture him actually going through with it but I thought he was going to arrange a last minute escape for Nina. Awww. Poor Nina, I don't know if she really cared about Stan at all or if he is just delusional that someone he had so much power over would be honest with him. Martha having a gun seems to parallel the kid having a gun. So I am guessing Martha will shoot Clark once she finds out who he really is...or will shoot someone to protect him. Now there's a good storyline! Clark turns Martha, who then double agents for Beeman.

There are so many terrible things about this idea. And the fact that Elizabeth would even consider it makes me hate her. People are trying to justify her reasoning over at TWoP. Sorry, but turning your kid into a cold-blooded murderer is not justifiable no matter how great the "cause." Now I'm hoping Philip leaves her and takes the kids. Fuck that.
