I know I was bored with that storyline and thought I wouldn't care if that character was out of the picture but that sudden, cold, and brutal end was quite a shock.

I was waiting for her to kill herself somehow. I wasn't actually expecting her to go out like that!

Same (Her death being brutal and a shock). It was inevitable and it made sense both for the show and the character. But it was still sad. What got me was that Nina seemed resigned to death in the past couple episodes. Yet when they told her she was sentenced to death she started crying. She looked so young in that scene.
I don't see the Pastor Tim plan working. I still think he and his wife are marked for death. Then again I've been expecting Martha to die for the last 2 seasons. Speaking of which, next week's episode is called Clark's Place and the very vague log line is Philip had to make a difficult choice from which there is no going back from. They wouldn't kill Martha off now, right after Nina? I hope not. Even though Martha is almost certainly doomed, her death is going to be devastating if/when it happens.

I really wasn't expecting Nina's death. The actress is so good, and I figured the showrunners would find a way to integrate her back into the show.
I predict Oleg will be so angry that he may start giving secret info to Stan. It would be just Philip and Elizabeth's luck to be betrayed by one of their own countrymen.

Hey, when the Russians say "the sentence will be executed shortly" they aren't fooling around! That was kind of a shock, but the Nina storyline really had nowhere to go.
In other news, I heard an interview with Costa Ronin, the actor who plays Oleg, this morning and, oh my, he is so charming and funny. His audition stories had me cracking me.

I'll have to see if I can find that interview.

According TPTB their research showed that's how the Russians handled executions. Apparently, they considered it more humane since the condemned wasn't left in suspense wondering about their impending death. But, yes, I agree. It felt like the natural end of Nina's story so I'm fine with her death. It's so sad though.
The scenes at the bowling alley were sweet. For a brief second they Philip, Elizabeth, Henry, and Paige are just a normal family enjoying some happy quality time!
I really liked the scene between Philip and scientist mole when they discussed Philip's relationship with Elizabeth. Philip would just love to have a normal life but Elizabeth just can't do that. So, Philip accepts the spy life. He would rather live the spy life with Elizabeth than to live a normal life without her. Kinda adds another layer to Elizabeth giving Philip permission to leave the spy life and raise Paige and Henry as Americans if she died.

Here's the link to the interview with Costa Ronin I mentioned above. The showrunners were also on and talked about the realness of the Russian execution: link

Martha, Martha, Martha, you were being used.
She still doesn't understand that "Clark" was with her only for her FBI connection.

Poor Martha. Phillip was trying to keep her safe and get her out of danger, but she's thrown herself into the deep end now.
