I've been waiting for Martha's death for three years because, really, what alternative is there? She's really falling apart now, but even at that, I don't think she's suicidal. She's certainly had the opportunity and the means to do that in the last week and hasn't. Though...I guess now if she feels there is nothing left for her she could take that out.
Also, I'm sure it will be revealed, but for now I'm just pretending that Elizabeth's friendship with Young Hee is her secret life away from the KGB and she just likes being a Mary Kay consultant and having dinner with a Korean-American family. It's her version of rebelling, lol.

This is really turning out to be a great season. An episode completely centered on Martha and I was on the edge of my seat. I also love how JohnBoy (I will never be able to remember his characters name) has been hit with this. I do imagine finding out your secretary married a KGB agent would be jarring. Watching him and Elizabeth react to the Martha crisis has really made the show.
The writers and the actress that plays Martha deserve all the awards.

I love the way they are handling Philip's reaction to all this and his feelings for Martha. He doesn't love her like he loves Elizabeth. But he cares for her, feels guilty for using her, and wants to protect her as much as he can. He doesn't have romantic feelings for her, but I think he appreciates her feelings for him. She truly loves him and that surprises him. Their relationship is far more complicated and interesting to me than E & P. It's not love, but a very complex bond they have. I wonder if Martha will make it to the USSR and what her life would be like there. Will they really take care of her or will they "take care of her" like they did Nina.

I don't know what's going on with the plane and the pilot, but I have doubts that Martha will make it to Russia alive.
The last few eps have been oustanding. If the show doesn't get any Emmy love this year, it will be really bizarre.

If the show doesn't get any Emmy love this year, it will be really bizarre. I think Martha's going to have a companion on the trip, that being the dead, infected rat. Good luck with that. But, yeah, this show surprises because I thought for sure Martha would be dead by now, either by now. I loved Philip's reaction to Elizabeth telling him he could go with Martha; he truly couldn't believe that SHE believed he wanted to be with her. I think his actions the last few episodes had her thinking one way when it was really that Philip has a lot of guilt about how he essentially ruined Martha's life and that guilt is what's driving him. That this show and "Bates Motel" don't get any Emmy love is a mystery to me.

This show is fantastic! Nail-biting,edge-of-my-seat tension and I can't get enough of it.
I dunno about Martha's fate, I keep going back and forth on how she will end up. I can see how Martha being unpredictable and running around loose would mean she has to be killed, but why would the KGB want her dead now that she is back with them? They can send her back to Russia and parade her around as an example of how Americans are willing to help the cause. However, the pilot switcheroo and the teaser scene of her on a plane in the next episode make me think she is DOOMED.
I listened to the Slate podcast about this episode and they had Alison Wright, the actress who plays Martha, on the show. It was an interesting chat because I did not know she was not American! I also liked the discussion they had about Martha's looks and how she is perceived by different characters on the show: some see her as plain and pitiful while others see her as hot stuff. As others have mentioned, I love the complex relationship that exists between Martha and Clarke/Philip. There is something real there, hard to define what exactly it is, but whatever it is it is intruding into Philip's relationship with Elizabeth. If he kept this part of himself hidden, what other secrets is he keeping and how can she trust him? And I'm not talking about Martha here!
Still not digging the Paige knows storyline, that just seems ridiculous. I can't imagine a teenager would keep quiet and/or join the spy family team.Too many variables to make me believe anyone would think this is a good idea.

Pastor Tim is of the age to remember the Red Scare of the 50s. It's hard to believe that someone who KNOWS there are spies among us would keep quiet about it, even if he's a hippie-ish minister. Maybe it's out of loyalty to Paige, but it's getting hard for me to believe this secret is not out yet.

I wonder if that is the last we will see of Poor Martha. Or will we get to see her in Russia. I feel like the plots set in Russia tend to be too disconnected from the rest of the action. But I am curious to see how Martha adjusts to her new life.
I feel like my suspicions about Pastor Tim are at least partly based on the bad wig he is wearing. I know it is because the actor is bald in real life but why not hire an actor with real hair? I mean the guy who plays Pastor Tim is fine but he is not so great that it seems necessary to hire him and give him a bad rug. Or let him be bald. It is just so distracting. Reminds me of the ridiculous piece they made Corey Stoll wear on The Strain.
I will be very upset if something bad also happens to Young Hee.

I'd like to see a flash forward of Martha settled in some seaside town in Russia, happily married to a husband who dotes on her, with two adorable kids and a dog. And then an exhausted and world-weary decommissioned Phillip/Clark/Misha knocks on her door...

I loved the whole flash forward and how, on the surface, everything seemed great...until Paige got home from miniature golf, aka her assignment with Pastor Groovy Hair and his wife, and had to report in to her parents, aka her handlers. How much does Paige hate her life and her parents right now?
I think there's a chance we won't ever see Martha again OR won't see her until the series' finale. Just leaving her fate up in the air is so much more ominous than knowing what happened to her.
