One of my friends has an improve troupe that does Mystery Science Theater-style live movie roasts. I've seen them do Top Gun twice now and it's been so-funny-I-cried hilarious both times. I think that's the only way I'd even consider paying to see it - gotta have the live funny people making fun of it in real time.

This movie has been on my TV more times than I can count. I can't get enough of its ridiculous nature. It's so terribly written yet I love it - home of the redundant cliche: "he's a wild card who flies by the seat of his pants, completely unpredictable." Really? Hahaha.
The volleyball scene with all the flexing, the love scene, the everyone cheering on the carrier final scene - all hilarious. My father is a military man, and he laughed his ass of at most of the movie due to its absurdity. Watch it with friends who love to mock it mercilessly and if you have a good sound system, blast it through the speakers. The sounds of the planes will shake your house. Seriously fun times with this movie.
This movie came out when I was a teenager, so it was huge for me and my friends. Also, a friend of mine was nicknamed Maverick in college, and my then-boyfriend was nicknamed Iceman. They both went on to become AF fighter pilots and yes, they were both cute and resembled the stars of the movie.

Mr. carrier76 works with the Navy, so the one time we watched part of it together, he kept pausing it and telling me about the various ways in which it was "wrong." Ha. I was just like, "I DON'T CARE!!!!!"
The volleyball scene is HILARIOUS.

One of the most homoerotic movies ever made.

I was 9 when this movie came out. We went to see it, and I was so bored my mom finally took me shopping. I have no interest in seeing it again.
I do love Val Kilmer from "Top Secret" and "Real Genius" though. Can they re-release those?

I have honestly never been able to finish this movie but I think I could if I watched one of your friend's movie roasts.

Re: the volleyball game. What is the point of that weird slo-mo pose that Slider does?

To show off the muscles of course! Every move they make involves flexing in that scene. I'm laughing just thinking about it.

Okay, you all talked about this stoopid movie until I started looking for it to be on TV. It's on tonight and like a dummy I'm recording it and will watch it. Saw it once a very long time ago so it will probably be good for laughs.
