He is definitely very...unfortunate looking. I have seen him in a few things and he is a good actor, plus that voice of his is incredible. He did the voice of Smaug in the Hobbit movies and his scenes were my favorite parts out of all of those stink-bombs.

I think he resembles a ruddy hammerhead shark. Williamjoel, you can join us too! I've never seen him in anything, but he seems like a good actor from his reviews, and from what you all are saying too many of his fans are nut bars. Hope these crazies leave him and his family alone. 100% hammerhead. I dont think people are crazy so much as he must portray magnetic characters or something? If you love the character, its hard to separate them from the actors big blunt orange head.

For me, I love the characters he plays and find him very unique looking. He just doesn't look like anyone else. That and the voice does it for me.

For me the highlights of The Hobbit were Lee Pace as Thranduil.
On topic, I think Benedict Cumbersome looks like a purebred Siamese cat with the wedge shaped head.

I know who he is and I still think he is odd looking. I dont understand the hype surrounding his looks. He has the face of a foetus (to me). You and I should probably head over to the "Ugly" thread together, coffecakes, as I think he resembles a ruddy hammerhead shark. Williamjoel, you can join us too! But Cumberbatch is just repellent to me. I can't even see it. His mouth, just ugh: God, this was a pretty mean post. For me the highlights of The Hobbit were Lee Pace as Thranduil. On topic, I think Benedict Cumbersome looks like a purebred Siamese cat with the wedge shaped head. MOOOODSS!!

I'll agree he's not conventionally handsome, but depending on the role he plays he can be quite attractive. I REALLY like the way he looks in Dr. Strange. Besides looking as if he could have stepped right out of the comics (the high cheekbones, the blue-grey eyes), the beard does him a lot of justice. I'm not crazy about facial hair overall, but that neat beard compensates for the slightly weak chin--filling out the face like Abe Lincoln's did.
And the BOD! That scene in the trailer (also featured in a razor commercial) where he's trimming the beard with his shirt off...

Sometimes he's handsome...sometimes not. I like the uniqueness especially in a world where unless you look a certain way you don't matter or are ignored. He's kind of like Bowie, Swinton, Daniel Craig, Willem Dafoe, Morgan Freeman, etc. None of them would be considered traditionally attractive but it is their uniqueness that sets them apart and plays a major part in their success.

He has a long face anyway, and his tilted eyes make it look longer. I think he really suits glasses too, as it breaks up the length of his face.

At the same time, it's worth noting that most of those examples are men, who have MUCH wider latitude to be weird or even just "average" looking than female celebrities. Not Benedict's fault, but I think he's lucky he's a man.

I would add Anne Hathaway and Renee Zellweger to the odd-looking woman list.
