I like what he wore to VMAs but mostly I like that he turned up in a smart little vintage car. It was really charming and different.
No a yacht, not a hoopdie , not a Bentley. Just a car.

I remember him saying something really homophobic years ago and I went off him just like that. Which is a shame, really, (especially since I can't remember the actual specifics of what he said, but I remember it stirring my inner gay rights activist - although it probably paled in comparison to what today's rappers spout) as I used to think he was really talented (I wore out the CD single of that collaboration he did with pre-crazy Lauryn Hill). Now whenever he comes on TV or a song of his comes on the radio, I just change the channel/station without a second thought.

Yeah, well, closet cases usually are pretty homophobic.

I hadn't heard about this. What did he say? Was it in an interview? Was it in his lyrics?

AirbrushedHottie, I don't quite remember exactly what he did say, but it wasn't in his lyrics or anything, it was in an interview I watched. Cut to me, all disillusioned that this guy whose insightful lyrics I loved was throwing homophobic crap all over. But then, I moved on to Q-Tip soon after, and have never looked back.
A closet case, you say, jaghetersimon? Hadn't heard that one before.

While I am not gay, nor homophobic hopefully this is the right place to ask this question without being attacked. Why is it so wrong for others to voice their opinion or disagreement in terms of homosexuality without personal attacks or acusations of being closet gays? Aren't they entitled to their opinion/belief/feelings like the rest of us?

Can't speak for everyone, but for me, I frown upon it because you aren't just criticizing someone for their choices or for their actions, but for who they are (I firmly believe that homosexuality is not a choice, and that people are born that way). To me, it is along the same lines as slamming someone for say, being female or for being Asian.
So he is certainly entitled to his opinion, I just disagree with slamming someone for who they are, for the way they were born.
Topic: I've never even heard of this guy (which why I actually clicked on this thread - to find out). I feel so old...

Of course not. You can only express an opinion if everyone else agrees with it or deems it politically correct. /sarcasm
Topic: I LOVE Common. I have since he was MC Common Sense and with the Un-American Caravan. His CD "Can I Borrow A Dollar?"--CLASSIC! Love, love, love his new single. Will definitely be getting the CD as soon as I can.
If you want to hear some hip-hop that isn't the same ol' same, definitely check him out.

Kostgard, I have known people who consciously choose the gay lifestyle, race nor sex however is a matter of choice. That is the part of your statement that I respectfully disagree with.
Thank you for your very honest and candid explanation and reasoning.

For more concise than I could have put it, kostgard. Well said.
