Rewatching season 4 now. I have fewer hateful feelings for it.
And I will say an unpopular opinion. I think the casting of Willie isn’t bad. He has some of the stronger Fraser features which don’t make him “cute” but do resemble Jamie more than John’s delicate features. And he’s a better actor than Sophie

It's going to be a long drought-lander to wait for Season 5! They said it's going to air in February, so I too have been rewatching episodes. I could see how teenage Willie has some similar features, but that little boy that played him looks so dramatically different. I know that kids change and can look very different from when they were little, but still some resemblance. And yes, the actor that played Willie (teen) was a better actor than Sophie. All I know is, we BEST have Jennie come back in the upcoming season.

The Down The Rabbit Hole episode, where Brianna visited Lallybroch and there was only Ian, it was so sad and empty without Jenny blustering around, staring at this stranger, lol. I don't think Laura Donnelly has been onstage in the past several months, which interfered with her being available for season 4 filming, and unless she was pregnant again, she should have been ready and willing, lol.

I follow a few of the cast members on Instragram, and I've been keeping my eyes peeled for any sign of Jenny (I don't think I've seen any). Mostly I've just been amused that the actors who play Lord John and Murtagh seem to get along pretty well and were hanging out in NYC together while the cast was in town for NY Comic Con (No Jenny there, either, But Aunt Jacosta was there). Like, there's a picture of them posing together while holding Whole Foods bags, and I'm just amused at the idea of Lord John and Murtagh shopping at Whole Foods together (like Murtagh would be caught dead in a Whole Foods).

Or caught dead hanging out with Lord John Gray! But I just checked Laura Donnelly's Instagram and Twitter and she's working on a new show by Joss Wheadon, "The Nevers" for HBO. BOO! Surely she can squeeze in a few episodes for Outlander? I think they're still filming, no?

Make room for Jenny!

I think they need to recast Jenny. Laura Donnelly's career took off after the first season and they can't count on her availability (that's why we got that awful episode with Bree and Leoghaire). Jenny is too important a character to leave out of the story because the actress is not available. I loved Laura playing her, but it's time to move on.

I'm rewatching season 1 on Netflix and I'm reminded of how good this show was in the early days. I'm on the episode where Claire has lunch with the British Army officers and is later confronted by Black Jack Randall. The cinematography, the script, the acting is all perfection.

Season five is here - you can watch it now on the Starz app (I think it airs Sunday). To give a vaguely spoiler-y rundown, it was mostly about Brianna and Roger’s wedding, which was a big ol’ bag of “Who cares?” for me. But some highlights: - Brianna looked very pretty. She didn’t whine much this episode, so I didn’t mind her. - Absolutely no one gave a shit about their wedding cake. I guess that wasn’t a big deal at weddings at the time. But it was just funny watching them cut into it and no one was watching or caring. - Roger still kinda sucks and Jamie kinda hates him, to my great amusement. - At first I thought, “Oh, no. Lord John didn’t come to the wedding?” because I didn’t see him, even though there’s this shot where Claire enters the wedding and acknowledges several guests, including LJ. I did notice him when Jamie enters the wedding because he was the only guest Jamie acknowledged as he walked Brianna down the aisle. Then later he and Jamie wander off away from the party and have a drink and a talk, and seriously, Jamie - just go ahead and ask Claire if she’d be open to mixing things up in the marriage. The only people who make you as happy to see them as Lord John does are Claire and Murtagh, one of whom you’re already banging and one you shouldn’t bang because he’s family and it would be weird. Just go for it, dude. You might make the show more interesting. - Roger is still totally that guy with his guitar. - Marsali proved she is way more charming/interesting than Brianna yet again, and I’m mad we don’t get more screen time with her. - There was a montage of all the couples banging (while the wedding guests were all still there outside dancing and drinking) and I thought, “They better cut to Lord John sitting outside by himself looking sad” and they did! (A moment the LJ actor memorialized in an Instagram story . Ha!) Though, I guess he looked more thoughtful than sad. And he did kinda chuckle at a drunk guy. - Roger is a dick to Aunt Jacosta. Admittedly, she was pushing his buttons to test him, but his reaction was...supremely dick-ish. She and Ulysses laugh at him afterwards, which was great. - Jamie gives Roger a golden opportunity to step up and prove himself part of the family and he totally biffs it. In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t care for Roger.

I dislike Roger and Bree so much that I might not even watch this season. And Outlander use to be appointment TV for me.
