I feel sorry for the actors. I can only imagine how awful the author must be to work with if people want to get out despite this being a massive global hit. Dornan and Johnson are fucked (no pun intended. I think.)

Are the actors contracted for all three? I thought that was up in the air too. They are both negotiating pay right now. One of the producers was whining and kind of saying that they should get over it and work for cheap throughout the series. So that will probably be the next landmine to blow up.
Dornan has been shit-talking the character in interviews (calling him a fucked up psychopath), and he has other projects lined up, including another season of The Fall, so I could see him walking.
Also, does this mean that EL is directing? I can't see a respectable director bowing to a super bossy scriptwriter/super shitty erotica writer.

E.L. James' husband to write sequel. He is an actual screenwriter so there's that. But still he is basically her proxy. I am really curious to see who they get to direct. Who would want to put up with that?

Who would want to put up with that? Maybe she's got a cousin who once was a stagehand in community theater and is looking for work.

I saw that on ONTD and laughed out loud for real. She is delusional as shit.
If I were Dakota or Jamie, I'd pay my lawyer through the nose to find a loophole in the contract.

I got a chance to see the movie and it wasn't all that bad. I probably should have saved my "won't anyone think of the children" outrage over the movie until I actually saw it. There's a huge difference between the movie and the book. In the book Anastasia is a cartoonish smart but super dumb woman-child who is at the mercy of an abusive asshole. In the movie Anastasia is a naive young woman with a backbone and a brain who falls in love for the first time with an intrusive, petulant, overbearing pain in the ass (and not the good kind). The sex scenes are all romantic-like. The contract was negotiable and there was some give and take as far as who had the upper hand at various times during the relationship. Christian seemed to like when Anastasia behaved assertively towards him and her submissiveness was more playful than anything. Until it wasn't. And that's when Anastasia appropriately left. Is this an ideal relationship? Of course not. It's that shitty "what was I thinking" relationship. There was some clunky dialogue (I'm 50 shades of fucked up - ha!) and the hotel scene was unintentionally goofy, but given the source material, it could have been so much worse. It's too bad E.L. James can't handle her ignorant vision of a dominant-submissive relationship being messed with. Given the blatantly controlling and abusive storyline in the second book, I don't know if the movie could have been saved from the trash, but in the right hands anything is possible. The writer and director for the first installment did a good job of shining up a turd. Now that E.L. James and her husband are taking over completely, the next movie will likely be a huge steaming pile of ass (and not the good kind).

Uh, I enjoyed the movie. It seemed fairly self-aware of how ridiculous the "plot" was, and Dakota Johnson was great. Sad to see the second one is probably going to be the worst creation of all time though.

While the movie will certainly find it's share of Razzie nominations, the soundtrack is also a legitimate hit, and I wonder if any of the songs have a chance at Oscar? That Elle Goulding song is certainly clever and catchy enough.
