Back on topic - did anyone see Booksmart? What is your opinion of Olivia as a filmmaker? I liked it. I thought she made some great choices, shot-wise, as a director, and think she's got a bright future in that area, assuming that's what she wants. Plus, she got a great performance out of Billie Lourd, who I usually think is a godawful actress.

Good point, but on a huge project like that it's possible that was a note from the studio execs that he had to execute. Nina Jacobson said she allowed Billy Ray to experiment with plot changes, but ultimately vetoed it and brought it back to the faithful adaptation of the book that she and Lionsgate had always planned. Nobody involved in the movie seemed to want to throw him under the bus, but they did make it clear that the plot deviations were his idea. I read that Billy Ray didn't think it was possible to establish a credible love triangle if Gale was not very present in the first movie (ok that's reasonable) and also such a passive (implication: unmasculine) character. Well, then, Billy Ray's another asshole screenwriter . Bummer.

I saw Booksmart in the theaters and really liked it. See it! It's quite good.
I had no idea Beanie Feldstein is Jonah Hill's little sister. She's been great on What We Do in the Shadows too. Getting off topic.
I don't trust Eastwood any further than I could throw him (which is a bad idea for everyone involved.
I do enjoy making fun of The Mule though.

As I stated in the worst films of the decade thread, and perhaps this is also an unpopular opinion, I hated Booksmart.

I completely take back what I said about why the Richard Jewell movie got made. Just read some reviews. It's heavy on "don't trust the fake news mainstream media." Crazy Uncle Clint true to form. Wait, Clint Eastwood is crazy? Do tell.

Did you miss it when he talked to an empty chair onstage at the Republican National Convention? Was that 2008 or 2012, I can’t recall.

Topic: I wonder if her and Jason Sudakeis will ever actually get married. There's been rumors he cheats on her all the time for years. They've been engaged for 6 years and had two kids in the interim but have not managed to get married - that's never a good sign. Edited to clarify: There are certainly couples where both parties don't want to get married, and I don't doubt their commitment. But when the couple ostensibly values and wants to get married, as evidenced by getting engaged, dragging their feet on actually getting married usually means trouble. And usually when they get married 10 years on, a la Brad and Angelina, it is a last ditch effort to save the relationship and rarely works.
