We are but stardust. Burn well; your time is fleeting yet fantastic. You will shine as bright as you dare.
Brookie, your signature quote is lovely. where is it from?

I still miss Buy Me. I'll always wonder what happened to the infamous rainforest condo lady.

I have good friends who are/were producers on both interior and exterior décor shows and friends who have also been families on the shows who had a room or two re-done. You usually have to invest at least $10,000 of your own money. I think the furnishings depend on the show: one of my friends had their basement re-done and furniture was salvaged, re-purposed or gussied up for the TV.

One of my favourite shows was called "For Rent". The host would help people look for an apartment, then when it was secured the renter would kick in money and the host, Jodi something would as well, nothing more than the first month's rent and she would do a mini makeover with the permission of the landlord. Nothing too big, paint and sometimes light fixtures. Not everyone owns a house so I liked this...I'm not even sure if it's still on...I never see it anywhere. Great show though.

I miss the days when HGTV had shows for and about regular people. Now it's all "My Private Island", or some trust fund baby moving to Paris on a whim, or a $100,000 kitchen remodel.

I think shows like Bryan Inc, Leave it to Bryan, Flip or Flop, Flipping Out, Love It or List It, and Fixer Upper are mostly "regular people" shows. Sure, they often do an entire house and do it top shelf, but they provide lots of design ideas, and there always seems to be affordable IKEA stuff included.
I like Moving the McGillivrays (Scott McGillivray of Income Property) as they build their dream home, but lawdy, that is one extravagant castle!

I still like the shows, even knowing they're kind of fake, because I pick up design tips and get to peek into houses. One of my favorite Internet time wasters is to scroll through Zillow listing, so I' obviously easily entertained.
Last night I watched a House Hunters Reno show I had on the DVR where the homeowners used porcelain tile with a wood grain that I loved. My dream home would have an open concept kitchen/dining/family room with wood grain tile.

I was watching the finale of Sarah Off The Grid. Sarah and her husband Alex bought land about 5 years ago and decided to build their forever/retirement home on it. It's like 5000 square feet, such a massive house. I like Sarah and Tommy the designer that has worked with her for over 20 years. I'm not a huge fan of her style, it's always very light colors, ice blues, light greens and yellows. Not really a fan but it does work for her.
She and her husband are working as the general contractors and sometimes the contractors are so fucking rude to her. The drywaller called her "little miss" on the phone. The look she sent to the camera when he did that could have burned through metal. She handled it really well and ended up firing him and his crew later that episode.
For some reason they brought in Mike Holmes to have a look at their house. He was actually a dick and total dick to her after it was done when he was talking with his son. His son asked him if he would ever work with Sarah and he's like no. I'm seriously Mike??? You're a guest in their home don't be an asshole behind Sarah's back.

Man, I forgot about this thread!! I just reread the entire thing. I still have the same basic bitches about HGTV. Soon, no more Chip and Jo (I still think there's something we aren't being told there, but that's just my innately suspicious nature). And I'm not fond of all the "Flip or Flop" versions out there either. There's TOO many now.
