Guys, it's ok--we ALL just took her comments "out of context:" linkIt was an op ed. In the New York Times! We took it exactly the context it was meant to be taken. Preachy and self-righteous victim blaming drivel. I understood it pretty clearly that actresses who diet, exercise, and dress to highlight their physical assets are somehow responsible for getting sexually harassed and she has been spared this treatment by not doing those things. Am I missing something?

Long after Blossom and before she was on the Big Bang Theory, she was the recipient of a makeover in an episode of What Not to Wear. I like to think about that bit of ridiculousness whenever she gets all high and mighty.
Your comeback started on a makeover show Blossom. Deal with it.

Am I remembering correctly that she was a bit high and mighty about her "modesty" dressing on that? I saw that ep a long time ago.

As I recall she was also far more pleased than she'd expected to be when the final wardrobe actually looked good on her. Like she had an existential crisis over the realization that she could be smart, serious, feminist AND care about how she looked.

I think that all of the criticism of her looks in her teenage years really did a number on her. And understandably so, think back to your teen years -- can you imagine how that must feel to have every flaw critiqued by strangers and potential employers? It sounds like hell. As a coping mechanism, she has come back with a weird justification that "It is okay that I am not conventionally pretty because I don't want to be conventionally pretty! And a side benefit is that I am not sexually harassed and/or assaulted! So who comes out the winner now?"
Only that's not the way it works.

Like she had an existential crisis over the realization that she could be smart, serious, feminist AND care about how she looked. I don't think she came off high and mighty in it, she seemed like she was genuinely concerned about adhering to her religious beliefs as far as modesty goes. It was a long time ago though so I could be remembering it wrong.

I thought she had a melt down and tried to bail at one point because they were trying to tell her that modest and flattering weren't exclusive. But as you said, it was a long time ago and I could be confusing her episode with someone else's.

There are at least parts of it on YouTube - the parts I saw didn’t include a meltdown, but she seemed wildly uncomfortable.

The only meltdown I remember from that show was this girl who really really really really DID NOT want to change her hair, like at all. It wasn’t even for religious reasons. She was just really attached to her hair and started crying when they got to the hairstyling part of the show. Nick wound up just giving her a trim, and he had argue a while for even that much.
Mayim did seem a little uncomfortable with the whole process but I don’t remember her freaking out at any point.

Was that the nanny who had really long hair that she just kind of bundled up?
