And really, what does it mean to "watch tv?" I am working at home at the mo and I have TCM on for company, but all I can really tell you is that it's a vampire movie from the 40s. Now it's a thing about Michael Curtiz.
Some of the activists I follow on social media gave Shailene major props for going to Standing Rock, so good for her.

While I think that her comment was a bit tone-deaf considering she was at the Emmys, I don't see it as being all bad or even a big deal, coming from Shailene. It also completely fits with her persona; I would have been surprised if she had said that she actually watches TV.
I own a TV, but only use it to watch DVDs and Netflix on it. I despise German tv programs and I haven't been able to watch the news since January (thank you, Donald).

She was asked what shows she watched, should she have lied? And then was asked what she does in her spare time. She reads. It's different, in my view, if she just added the reading comment without that second question. I guess I don't see the problem. And I watch a lot of tv.

I don't even know what she won for or much about her, I'm just dragging because I hear this sort of comment a lot so it's about the comment for me. I also don't care for the dash of hypocrisy, first implying that she simply has no time to watch tv, and then she reads in the spare time she does actually have that she implied that she didn't. It's condescending to judge how other people spend their time, in general, so I'm being that person.
I would have liked the interviewer to ask her what she's reading at the moment, but sometimes I feel like I'm asking for the world, between this and colleges publishing what their student-athletes' majors are.

It's not a big problem, but I do think there are more gracious ways to say it. "I don't have a favorite show because I haven't been keeping up with TV recently. I don't even own a TV right now because I have been so busy with other things." Or something to that effect. There's something about announcing to people, "I don't own a TV, I READ" that is inherently judgy.

Not to mention her pretentious "I ask my friends who watch TV 'how do you find the time?'"
Sit down, Shailene.

I despise German tv programs Even the Donna Leon Commissario Brunetti mysteries? They show those on a station here, and I love watching a Venice-set show in German. "Guten Tag, Commissario," always makes me smile. I also watch Bukow & Konig. /off topic

She probably should have said she smokes a lot of weed in her spare time to be more honest. That can make time disappear and leave you with no time for TV.

Sociology or Communications. I was a Sociology major and I had a bunch of cheerleaders in my sorority; I know stuff. One of my classmates went on to be a very famous NFL player. I am fairly certain that he was illiterate or semi-literate. Topic? I think she has the potential to become an interesting woman, but she has some growing up to do.
