I was reading on Us Weekly (or the like), that she's tired of being compared to Jennifer Lawrence. Um, is she? I must have missed that comparison. HA! She wishes. Unless she means people noting that she is the star of a rip-off, poor-man's-Hunger-Games franchise, while JLaw is the star of the actual Hunger Games franchise. I guess she's right about that. No, I think it's a fair comparison. The Descendants was her Winter's Bone (teen actress bursts into the big time with accolades and nominations), she got picked for the lead of a YA franchise, and The Fault in our Stars was a big get. When you do a head-to-head comparison, I think Shailene Woodley is "less than" Jennifer Lawrence in almost every way*, but she's still got a career and buzz that most young actresses would murder for. I kind of see them as the salutatorian and valedictorian of their graduating class. (Or given how insanely successful JLaw has been, maybe it's more like the salutatorian and the valedictorian-who-has-been-taking-classes-on-the-side-and-also-just-earned-her-bachelor's-master's-and-Ph.D.) *Including the way their buzzed-about quotes and clips make me go, "OMG, Jennifer, LOL!" and "::sigh:: Shut up, Shailene," respectively.

What a long-winded response to "How do you feel about being compared to Jennifer Lawrence?". No wonder no one was listening and they cut that out.
I don't even know why Fallon would ask that unless it was just him being his quirky (non-adorkable) self and not being serious at all. It would have been better had Fallon asked JLaw, "How do you feel being compared to Shailene Woodley?". Then she could have been like, "Who?".

On the box office board I frequent, just yesterday the Shailene and JLaw fanboys/girls were really getting into it about which one was more talented. Shailene's team has followed the JLaw playbook very closely.

I saw Divergent this past weekend with my son, niece and nephew. That's how I know who she is. She seems totally competent as an actor. She looks like every other suburban teenage white girl in uggs and yoga pants to me. Years ago, when I saw Stand by Me, River Phoenix's charisma burned off the screen.Jennifer Lawrence had the same sort of quality in Winter's Bone. Shailene doesn't seem to have that sort of magnetic pull. Divergent played out like a tv movie. She didn't elevate it at all. But, I am not a good judge of this stuff.

That's fair. You're right, there are definitely parallels. It's just that Woodley comes off as so try-hard and thirsty, so I don't like her, versus the no fucks I give about J.Law.

I actually can't fault her on her response to that stupid, stupid question.

I have a feeling it is going to be too depressing for me. But, Shailene was incredible in the Descendants. She had tons of charisma and stole quite a few scenes from George Clooney. I was bummed she wasn't nominated for an Oscar for that role. And she managed to survive that horrible Secrets of an American Teenager, which appeared to be the worst show ever aired on TV after Seventh Heaven. I actually can't fault her on her response to that stupid, stupid question. Yeah, that was a stupid question. I wonder if Fallon ever asks a male actor about comparisons to other actors.

If I didn't think Woodley was attempting to follow the JLaw playbook to the letter, I might find her annoyance more genuine. As is, I just think she's a sanctimonious idiot. She's been dropping Jen's name constantly, talking about how Jen's advice convinced her to do the film, etc. Only months later did she bother to admit she's never actually met JLaw. Can't use her to get headlines, then get pissed when people pick up on it, Shailene. Anyway, she's unbearable to me. So smug, so stupid, so coddled. Yes, all of us who can't stand you just prove how "discriminating" feminism is. Whatever.

I think she is absolutely INSUFFERABLE. No offense to anyone who thinks she's a good actress on this board but… really?
She is the worst. Wooden and annoying at the same time.
ETA: She wishes she was JLaw, who, comparatively speaking, is like Robert Downey Junior in charisma to Woodley's Judd Nelson.
