I think she is just young, a bit spoiled and selfish. Pretty much everyone sounds like a self-absorbed asshole at that age including myself when I was that young. You think you know everything and that everyone wants to hear your deep thoughts. It takes age to realize that you aren't that special or wise.

I agree. I am optimistic that she will be appropriately mortified by these interviews in 5 to 10 years.

I'll rag on some of the things she says (pssst... Shailene, you're not supposed to call yourself lovely and kind), but yeah, overall, it mostly seems like the ridiculousness and self-importance of youth amplified by the promotion of two big movies in close succession.
And the rest of those VF excerpts sound fine to me. So... stuff bothers her, and she tries to get over it.

I'd agree if we were talking about a non-celeb. But famous people get ass-kissed all time, people tell them they're the best, the most beautiful, the smartest, the most talented. They live in this bubble that's completely removed from any sort of reality or common sense. I don't know how Shailene or any other celeb who becomes famous when they're very young, has a chance to grow up and learn something. I bet people thought ScarJo would one day move on from the stupidity of her remarks about age but ten years on, she still seems that shallow. The best we can "hope" (because, who cares, really) for is that Shailene developes a tiny bit of self-awareness and shuts up about her amazing self ;-).
ETA: I was responding to mulva's post :-)

Just came back from the mall, this girl it seems is on every magazine these last few weeks. Totally off-topic, but...you have magazines at your mall? We lost the last newsstand at ours at least ten years ago and there is no place to buy books, magazines, CDs/DVDs, or any other type of media besides video games. And it's a GREAT mall otherwise... And yes, Shailene is everywhere right now. I hope she goes away for a while when the TFIOS frenzy dies down.

Malls should have bookstores, damnit.

Earlier this month I went with my sisters to Roosevelt Field Mall, a large shopping center out in Long Island. My younger sister wanted to go to a bookstore. When my older sister asked information where one was, she was told the closest bookstore was a stand-alone Barnes and Noble, on the other side of the highway/street and in a different shopping center.

Shailene's crunchy granola nonsense is really irritating, but I watched Divergent today and it was excellent. I found it much better than Hunger Games. I'll have to watch some of the other things she's been in.

I'm pretty sure all the critics groups will nominate/award her for TFioS, thus maybe securing her attention from bigger award groups. Not sure if she can go all the way to the Oscars, but award season with Sister Shailene will probably make us all look back fondly to AnnE Hathaway's Oscar season...;-)
