She bugs, but I do want to offer a moment of appreciation that she only shows her hoo-ha to the sun and not to paparazzi. I'll take bland hippy dippy over trying to show I'm an adult by dressing in skimpy clothes and falling down drunk outside of nightclubs any day.

She's reminding me of Terry Richardson in that sense.

My knowledge of Shailene's work is minimal (The Descendants) but I frequently read about her various opinions. She's in serious danger of becoming as annoying as Alicia Silverstone.

She's really young, so I've decided to avoid her interviews in general. I'll revisit Thatsomewhere down the line.

That's odd, I don't even remember her from The Descendants. Yikes.

The hand gesture is via surfer culture and means "hang loose". I have no read on this girl as I haven't seen any of her movies or TV shows.

Maybe she picked the hand gesture up when in Hawaii making The Decendents. I know everyone was doing it when we were there.

I liked her in Dependents, she reminded me of someone (I never did figure it out who) but I thought she did a good job. She didn't carry the movie (her little sister was amazing!), but there were a lot of good performances in that movie.

She'll continue to impress and grow (see J Lawrence) or peter out (see K Stewart).

I don't think ANYone in the offing is the next Gwyneth. She is the product of Old Hollywood entitled smug, rich boarding school entitled smug, pampered wealthy princess entitled smug, catered too special snowflake movie entitled smug, "most perfect female in the world" press entitled smug, "you are lucky to be my friend/boyfriend" entitled smug, "I am amazing at everything" entitled smug...

This much entitled smug can not exist on the same universe with an equal, or even emerging, amount of entitled smug without an implosion that would create a black hole through which nothing, not even light, could escape.

But I do think Shailene may become like Alicia Silverstone - young, well-intentioned and enthusiastic about alternative lifestyles at first, but getting way too wrapped up in her own world & opinions if nobody keeps her in check and grounded.

People worry about young actors getting carried away with drugs and partying, but it's not the only thing that people can get carried away with.

Shailene on the cover of Vanity Fair's July 2014 issue. Interview excerpts:

On the pressures of Hollywood and being herself: “Somebody came to me and said, ‘I can’t wait to see what you do next.’ I took that as pressure—that I had to live up to somebody else’s expectations. There were a few months where I was like, ‘I don’t want to act anymore.’ And then I got over it and realized it’s none of my business what other people think of me.”

Though Woodley has a reputation as an actress with a conscience, she tells Smith she realizes that not everyone wants to hear about it. “As much as this industry is a platform for talking about big issues, there’s also so many fuckin’ issues. You could talk about Russia, or Argentina, or fracking, or G.M.O.’s. Maybe the only thing that I’m supposed to do is just show up and be me in every moment. Because I do feel like one of my gifts is to be open and lovely—simple things like smiling at strangers and having kind, small interactions. I think that is what’s going to ultimately shift things.”

On being cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2: “For a few hours it was literally like, ‘Oh, my God, was I awful? Why did they cut me? What are people going to think?’ I woke up the next morning and I was like, ‘O.K., it makes total sense.’ I’m a pretty spiritual person, so I can just sit back and trust that everything happens for a reason, even if my ego doesn’t like it.”

George Clooney, on Shailene: “Shailene can do whatever she wants. If she wants to be a movie star, she has it. If she wants to change the world, she will. Her talent and kindness go hand in hand. We’ll be talking about Shailene Woodley 40 years from now. I’ve never seen anyone so young that has so much together.”

She is just so. young. I don't know if I was ever that young. I mean, people ask me all the time if I still paint. What they are saying is, "I remember something about you, you painted that thing once." That is what people are doing, they are saying, "I remember something about you, you were in that movie." That's it. If you crawl under the covers and go nuts because of the pressure of someone saying "You were in that movie once, what's next?" small talk, you are in for a lot of time under the covers. Honestly? I am starting to wonder if there is not something really wrong with her.
