In news that will surprise no-one, the Deangirls in the Supernatural forum are still crying about how the show ended, how Dean was flogged and pilloried all through the show, how Jensen Ackles never got his dues, oh but watch him now, he'll take over Hollywood, his talent is too amazing not to be seen from Jupiter, how he's just too kind for his own good, sticking with this terrible show and being treated so badly and not getting 58 minutes of screentime every episode. HOW DARE THE SHOWRUNNERS! Lawd, this kinda crazy takes dedication I gotta say. I've never seen that show or anything related to it except for people talking about the forum crazies. But wasn't it on years and years ago?
At this point, I don't think either one of those dudes has exactly taken Hollywood by storm and the longer it goes since their one show ended, it doesn't seem that likely that either of them is going to blow up.I think it's down to the type of shows I watch that I rarely run across those hardcore TWoP carryovers, but man, do I remember how miserable they were. I briefly got into the Jon & Kate show plus a couple of other multiple birth shows and those seemed to bring out the deep-seated hatred, the scary kind that actually tries to interfere with the TV people in real life. But I feel like a lot of them must have slithered on to deeper pits of the internet, I'm sure Reddit or something like that makes a good home for some of those really miserable folks. Most of the threads I read over there, even the larger ones like the Bachelor or Survivor, are mostly light commentary with only a couple of nutty ones mixed in. Supernatural ended in 2020 after 15 seasons. Jared Padalecki is already in a new series, Walker, on the CW.

The show ended earlier this year / last year(?) I can't even remember. COVID has made time negligible. Jared's moved onto a new show and Jensen is also moving on somewhere. It's the stuck in purgatory hell (pun intended) for me that keeps the Dean fandom frothing. Years have passed since the show first aired, it's been a gajillion seasons. They remember every single slight and bad word against Dean from YEARS AGO! I can't fathom that kind of obsession.

It's definitely not the kind of show that's transcended its place on the TV into a place in pop culture like a Seinfeld/Friends/The Office. But it's spawned such a dedicated group of online followers, I've seen discussion of them over several different iterations of post-TWoP boards. So I have this peripheral awareness of the show, yet I've never actually seen what Jensen Ackles looks like. I know the name from boards like this, but I truly have never seen this guy. I've seen the other guy in a terrible remake of Halloween (or Friday the 13th?). Good for them for such a long run though, 15 years is a hell of a long time to be on the air. I do wish there was a bit higher volume of people over there, the threads don't get nearly as much action as the old boards did. I remember the days of 40+ page threads for American Idol or Survivor (which was admittedly overwhelming) and with Primetimer, 6 pages for a thread is a lot.

That's why I don't think they Olympics threads will be much fun, but I'll check them out. As for the Commercials thread, the real wackadoos live in the "Commercials I Hate" thread (unsurprisingly). I sometimes about post commercials I can't stand, but it's all in fun and fairly lighthearted. But last year, someone posted about a commercial for a migraine medicine. At first the mom doesn't feel well because of her migraine, so she can't play with her daughter. Then she takes the medicine and feels better. So they begin playing a make-believe game with princess dresses and swords and I can't remember the rest. They run around the backyard and then the scene changes to make it appear that they are really in the scene and wearing fancier clothes, etc. I mean, it was a little silly, but boy did people unleash! 1. The girl was too old to play make-believe (she was maybe 8-10?). 2. Why didn't she have any friends to play with? 3. Why was the mom encouraging such foolishness? 4. They would never play with a kid past age 2 or 3 like that. 5. She's old enough to entertain herself. They took a somewhat silly ad and turned it into an indictment on parenting, spoiled children and anything else they could throw in that direction. I kind of backed out and took a break after that. And on and on.

Now they're all upset because BRAVO has "ruined" the Real Housewives shows. Why? Because they have black women on these shows that talk about...gasp...race. And the Karens on Primetimer can't deal with that.
Wonder why?

I'll take, "Tell me you're racist, without telling me you're racist" for $600 Alex

One thing I've never understood is the people who barge into threads and immediately announce that they haven't read anything before their post. I kind of miss when it was a rule that you had to read before posting (which I always assumed was just a way to deter people from announcing that they were ignoring everyone else and gracing the thread with their precious thoughts in a hurry).
It's just so annoying when someone is breathlessly sharing their hot take on something that's been discussed to death and wondering "am I the only one who thinks....??" No. No, you are not. Glance even one post above yours and you'll see that, but who has time for that when they need to bless the rest of us with their wit and insight.
Unsurprisingly, these are usually the same people who use all caps too much and can't spell or use punctuation regularly.

I haven’t read any other posts in this thread, but here’s my opinion. (Kidding!!! Just kidding.)
I post on Primetimer way more than I post here (because I generally have more to say about TV shows than celeb culture), and I’m super glad that the site exists and survives as a pretty worthy successor to TWoP (which I also loved despite its problems). I’m sure there are some problem threads and forums, but I’m not really familiar with those. It is one of the few places to have *active,* civilized, comprehensive discussion about particular shows and movies. While I go to Tumblr to view gifsets of great scenes from beloved shows and to get spoilers or news about shows that I like, any site that is unmoderated is just a free for all at the end of the day, and any attempt at back-and-forth discussion is a dicey prospect there. Primetimer is more my “early 40s” speed, lol.

I wish some of the forums were a bit livelier, but then again, with more people posting, there's more potential for really irritating people. Even with a smaller section of people, there are some real oddballs out there. For example, from the Murder She Wrote thread: MSW is a show I watched with my grandparents on Sunday nights after the whole family got together at their house for dinner, so I admit that I'm extra horrified by these posts due to that context. But honestly, never did I think I'd be reading about sex toys and horniness in relation to Jessica Fletcher. Some thoughts should really just remain in people's heads...

What's really hysterical is their seething jealousy of Jared getting a starring role in Walker while all their hero has gotten so far is a 13th billed guest star role on a streaming series that he had to essentially beg his old boss for. First they claimed Walker would quickly crash and burn, BTW it's #1 on the CW, and renewed for a 2nd season, now they're claiming that a guest role on some knock off superhero show is far more prestigious. After hearing how Jared was going to call into obscurity while Jensen becomes an A list movie star for years, I'm enjoying it.
